Goodbye my sweet TL :(

:cries:

Well my car is back at the dealer for good; we came to an agreement on it and I left her there for the final time today. I feel horrible and kind of choke up a bit when I think about [stfu llamas you love your car too].

In the end it was the best thing, and the dealership was awesome about it. There was no back and forth, we avoided legal actions, and I got what I would consider to be a fantastic deal.

.. Right now I am car less and will be commuting with the other half in our 2003 Legacy Wagon.. Thinking about going with an 05 - 08 Legacy GT Premium Sedan w/ 5 speed manual.. But not going to rush into anything at this point.

Sorry - It had been in a total of 6 times for power steering issues and I finally had enough of it; my warranty was about to expire and I couldn't take the chance of it failing again and hoping Acura would good will it. I'm sure they would based on prior service history/repair history, but at some point they would say.. This is costing too much, and you're out of warranty sorry.. So I needed to get it resolved before that happened.

I bought it used in 2007, and the steering started becoming a problem shortly after [it binds when trying to park/turn]

I'm sorry to hear man, but it sounds like you did the right thing. I would be more than frustrated if my TL had the problems yours did.

Good luck getting a new whip

Yeah but im a bit resistant going that route because i'm fearful of running into the same issue; i'm confident it was specific to my car, but I know others on here have had multiple pumps and even racks replaced, would hate to take a trip down warranty lane!

WTF????Another power steering rack problem? I am on my 3rd rack and this one has problems too! Of course the dealer is blaming my Teins this time but the car wasn't lowered before. It's out of warranty too. Tripnbeats has had bad luck too with his racks. I should make a poll here, sounds like a common problem!

Sorry to see you drop the TL. I would have done the same if I were facing that situation. But as an employee of SUBARU, I work at the facility that builds the Legacy in Indiana. I can personally assure you a SUBARU is very reliable. Though not as stylish as the TL they're good running vehicles. By the way you may want to check out the new 2010 Legacys they're pretty sharp!

Definately will not go the brand new car route due to my commute; doesn't make sense to kill the value!

I just put tein coilovers. I am wondering if i take it to the dealer for the first time, would they avoid my warranty for future references regarding power string?

That plant is massive, good lord. I drive past it all the time. Subarus are great vehicles though- they run forever.

That bites! But you did the right thing. Glad the dealership worked with you on this. Hope it was good while it lasted. Good luck with whatever you decide to get next time.

WTF! They took it back?.. they're supposed to compensate you.. give you another ride... damn.. Hate to see you go bud, get another TL.. the subie forums are filled with douchebags. lol..

I'm having some PS issues and some binding when parking as well.. the rack is fucking expensive.. but when I buy it I'm putting the whole thing in to make sure it's done right. Hopefully I can find a cheaper one at AutoZone or AAP with a LLT

They had replaced the entire rack/system before; this time they did the same + replaced all metal lines.

I shouldn't say they 'took' it back, we agreed on a price at which I would sell it back to them. I put 50,000 miles on the car, right now she's at 94k so I am really happy with the deal we worked out, trade in on the car was 10,500.00 and I got more than that for it so i'm happy.. just sad because normally you sell your car and get something that you really wanted, but I just sold my car and have nothing now.

I'm pretty sure i'm going to go the Legacy GT sedan route; but I might take this opportunity of not having a $500 car payment to pay off some CC debt.. Which means... 1 car household... ick!! I definately won't leave the forums.. I would have absolutely nothing to do at that point!

... AND THIS.. OMG NEEDLE SWEEP!:

ask any long time acura tech and they will say its a well known problem with failure of the rack--goes back to gen2 as do most g3 problems..
They say to always replace both parts when there is a failure- pump and rack or there will be crap (can we say crap here?) crud somewhere in the lines that will mess up the thing again

Others should note: ps fluid change is a DIY and should be done well before the suggested 60k miles--I look at the severe duty section for all maitenance--the book lies~

denial of warranty can only be done with a `direct connection to failure` and mod
Example- cv bearings - void because lowered cars put stress on cv bearing that was not there before
But your intake spacer doesnt affect the steering rack warranty

You could argue that totally stock cars have this failure, so its not directly blamable on the shocks

Getting to know the SM is a good plan, take popsicles- ice cream bars-donuts- `for the shop`,,a 5 dollar investment in goodwill will come back to you later
