Good idea in a dream world....
I've always wished there could be some way to integrate a Radar Detector into the Navigation system. Imagine if there was a company that had radar detectors that were linked into your TL's Nav unit. When you passed through a speed trap it would record the exact longitude and latitude coordinates, uplinked it back through the satellites to a database where it would constantly update subscriber's Navigation maps to speedtraps when the user came close. Obviously these coordinates would reset after an hour or so or if another subscriber passed through 20 minutes later and the cop was still there, then it would remain for another hour.
Obviously that wouldn't be as accurate as just having a radar detector on your dash, but the database could track repeated locations where traps are on a daily basis and give you a heads up 5 miles in advance or something.
just a thought.

Haha that would be insane. I don't see it as impossible though. People said satellite radio was big dreams. Satellite radar detector could be a big seller. Especially if it was combined with traffic information to tell you where cops are, speed traps, congestion, construction, etc.
Wouldn't be for a while considering I have never even heard of it.

Three possible ways:
1. install the signal transmitter into police cars, and your receiver picks where they're.
2. GPS has been installed into Cop cars, and you equip the same system as theirs from the black market.
3. Drive safely and carefully... and slowly (but above the limit).

But one of these would be really cool:

Gotta get me one of these...

Well! Once I had the same idea about Traffic Congestion to be reported on Nav and Acura came with Traffic Link in the nav. I thought that it will be nice to put the sensors on the road with the link to Satellite and people can see where the traffic congestion is.

The integrated Navi-detector would have been a good idea IF the satelitte system was a bi-directional design. It's not. You can get a lot of directional information from the GPS birds, but sending THEM information won't happen. In theory the application could be written for the NAVI system rather easily but the up links...Nope. Maybe tying the NAVI into the bluetooth wireless phone and having it call a specific 800 number every hour would allow the required information exchange. BTW - If anyone trys this, just remember that I called "dibs" on the technology concept of using the phone...

I did read somewhere that top of the line M Benz will have radar detectors that will also transmit the signal back to other Benz behind, so people can stay alert...
I don't remember where I saw it (probably Auto Spy)

I have a dream that when you're 40 and have 3 kids that some punk driving a car he really doesn't deserve filled with advanced radar detection doesn't slam into you at 110 mph and end the life of someone you love. Now that I think about it, maybe I do.

Driving is not entertainment. It's not an amusement park for overpowered Japanese luxury cars driven by juveniles.

Now if you could tie the Nav with a radar detector to tell you where the cop/paramedics/fire truck with his siren on is coming from, that would be good. Seems like they're always sneaking up on me!
Oh, and make it tell me when the road ahead is flooded, so I don't get stuck
