Good death story
The wife and I did today that we've loved to do over the years: venture out to Lancaster, Pennsylvania to do some outlet shopping. She loves the trip for the bucolic scenery of rural Pennsylvania and the shopping but I love it because it usually means I'll have a good chance to really wring out whatever I'm driving on Rt 30 bypass, Rt 202 or best yet, the Penna. Turnpike.
This time around, I had the MDX (2009 base). And one thing I love about the Pennsylvania Turnpike is how straight it is, specifically east of King of Prussia.
The story: Tonight being no different than any other night on which I've driven this stretch of road, I was pretty much fixed in the left lane cruising at 85 mph when I noticed a set of projectors far back in my rear view mirror. Glancing up a minute later, I noticed that it was MUCH closer than the minute earlier and that it was an SUV of some sort.
Curiosity getting the better of me, I slid over to the next lane and increased my speed to 90 mph. Within seconds, a Porsche Cayenne Turbo S in the left lane was moderately passing me @ now 95 mph, at which point I slid in a few car lengths behind it just to pace home at a faster speed.
Well, it seems that my pacing was noted by the Cayenne driver who then slid into the next lane and slowed down a little bit but, stayed I slid behind him paced nonetheless. He then slowed down substantially more (i.e.: 70mph).....to the point that I thought he was beginning to exit the highway.
Thinking this was the case, I slid back into the left lane to continue on my original 85 mph cruise. Once up to speed, I look to might right and Mr. Cayenne Turbo S is even with me @ 85 mph.
I decided 'screw it' and gave the MDX WOT just for the hell of it. Needless to say, I heard this V8 roar and knew that my arse was about to be handed to me..........and it certainly was. While the MDX got up to 120 mph much quicker than I thought she would (and faster than I recall my old 07 AV6 5AT), the Cayenne was bus lengths (maybe even an entire bus route) ahead of me easily pulling beyond 150 mph at this point.
Honestly, this was the one moment (and probably the only instance) where I wished I'd pulled the trigger on a used ML63 AMG instead of new MDX.
Needless to say, mad props to the beast of an SUV that Porsche create...ugly as it may be.
Cliff Notes: Cayenne Turbo S came up on the 6 of my already fast moving 09 MDX, toyed with me a bit and then took off like a UFO.

I think the ML63 can take a normal turbo but I'm not too certain with the Turbo S. It definitely would have put up a better fight than my MDX.

Oh well, if it's any consolation, your MDX is 10x better looking than the Porsche Pepper. In fact, if I was in the market for an SUV, the MDX would be the only one on my list. It'd be cool if they made it twin turbo though.

Although I think a twin turbo J37 would still be outgunned by the C-TS, it'd be nice if such a powertrain were available for the MDX as well as the RL and TL SH-AWD.
