Is This a Good Deal on Tints?
3M tints, non-metallic, 35% on 07 TL-S. Lifetime Warrenty on Work and Materials. Locally reputable (and local Acurazine member(s) recommended).
$185 for Tints, $20 per door for Moleskin/Felt.
Installer will remove rear quarter window and tint all the way to the edge.
Installer will remove and tint under the 3rd brake light.
Installer will install Moleskins/felt at my option for $20 per door.
They said 04 - 06 TL's had a hard(er) plastic weather-strip/seal and it often caused scratches. On the 07's, he said the window seal was a softer plastic and less prone to scratch and that most often the problem showed up in the fronts.
Basically his recommendation was moleskin/felt on the two fronts for a total of $185 + $40 = $225 plus tax.
Is this the way to go? Good price?
TIA.

Thanks for the info on the tints. You may have missed this:

Anybody know how much does the dealer charges to fix my door after I "do it myself"?
j/k (mostly)
Where are you guys finding all these $180 - $250 tint places?
I got mine professionally done at a reputable shop with life time guarantee for $85 including the piece for the windshield. they were gonna charge me $95 bucks. but with few nudge on the elbel, they drop the price for me. and they did a awesome job on my car.
I'm considering change my tint to a darker shade... since it's cheap
and what is the purpose of the mol skin? what do they look like? maybe it's a south Florida thing
but I just don't know why people paid that much for tints.....

I have an idea who you're using, but would love to know definitively (PM me if you don't feel like posting it). The tint price is great; moleskin not so. But given what you say about yourself, an extra $40 isn't that bad. One thing though, to remove the rear quarter window, I believe they have to remove the door panel...if so, see if they can put the felt in on the rears for free...no extra work as the door's already apart.
By the way, I was just reading your post(s) in the factory tint thread (I'm a dork, I love that analytical data)...I know why people choose non-metallict tint, but is there a difference between metallic and non-metallic other than use of electronic devices?
Oh, and as for the "mechanical moron" thing...I can explain it...you're a UC grad...us UNCC grads know about you guys...if you can't field a decent basketball team, how could you be expected to know how to use tools?
As further proof, my mom's a UC grad...she can't use tools, either

^^
Bruce at SpeedStyles. He took some time to talk through the process and options. He didn't push to upsell me, he just laid out his opinion and let me decide - that makes a positive impression.
I'll ask about the backs, that's a good idea. Lighting Mike's estimated $200, so $185 plus the skins is within my expectations.
Don't know about metallic vs non-metallic - there is no data in the 3M tables on signal interference. Hard to tell if the tint manufactures are providing a product to solve a real problem or using the new electronic technologies as an excuse to market a more expensive product. You can't trust 'em and you don't want to ignore 'em.
I just inferred from the data table the correct way to figure net tint on factory glass (although some don't seem to want to accept the logic. Whatever).
I could probably do the doors. The DIY's here are great. But I am a noob, and I don't have much in the way of tools. I'd rather do one with somebody and learn the right way.
I have no interest in f-ing up a $36,000 car to save $40. IOW (learned at UC): If it's not a core competancy, outsource it. LOL.

Bruce sounds like a decent guy...and I hear you about not wanting to mess up the car. Be sure to post pics when it's done. I'm very interested in seeing legal tint "done right"...especially since the shop in question is local. I'm still pretty sure I want something between what you're getting (legal) and what "20%" yields, but who knows. In your case, I will now the exact percentage of the tint, both gross and net, and what it looks like...that's much better than people just throwing out a percentage. And I can use the calculation on any other percentage they would offer to see what it really means (the math made sense to me).

I'm gonna give it a rinse and wipe down this evening and then I'll do some "before" and "after" for ya.
Should be able to post 'em tomorrow or Wednesday - keep an eye out in the Photo Gallery.

Sounds like a fair price to me as well. Remember folks when people are comparing prices across the country like this the prices will vary by market and installer. Its the same with the clear bra kits we sell. Some places are rather cheap and inexpensive, but do good work and other places charge the moon and arent really that good.
Price these days is not the same as it used to be. Quality, customer service and reputation is where it is at now
Good luck to you on the tint
