Good deal? Need some seasoned third gen'ers opinions

I found an 04 TL auto/nav black/tan in jersey about 30 miles from me (at a dealer) It has 92k on it, they said they have paperwork for all maintenance done and it was a one owner car. Supposedly a friend of the owner of the dealers wifes car. He said it's a cream puff old woman car which, whatever, it could be. Private party book in good condition is 12,200, they're asking 13,400. Since I have to pay sales tax and that bs back here in PA I was thinking of offering 12 flat for it, would that be decent?

edit: im also curious how, if any, high mileage third gens on here are holding up.

I bought mine at 94k for about 13k last august now it has 108k and it is holding up well. I just need to save up for timing belt and the 105k service. Just do the routine maintenance and you should be good.

Offer 12k and see where it goes from there.

Everybody with high miles always says it's driven softly and it's highway miles. Seriously I've yet to see a high mileage car say anything but highway miles. I think it's too high a price with that mileage. Please consider that honda auto transmissions around this period have a decent rate of failure. That's going to be such a headache. I'm not sure if you guys get snow or use salt but if your county does use salt I'm looking for a lower price.

You won't know till you test drive and even then how could you know about the tranny. You have to factor that in your final price.

Gtfo, I agree with Piggydog...check out the car-offer them less, especially with that high of mileage on it. If it's at a dealership, they are all hurting for sales and will hopefully take less. See if you can look at the records they have for maintenance and call the original owner to get the "real deal" on the TL.

Plus, ask them what has been done to the car as far as major maintenance, like timing belt, etc. That will be coming up close to the 100,000 mile mark. You don't want to be stuck with that because it's close to $1,500 for this major maintenance milestone.

You mentioned it's a 04, so i think you should look carefully into the transmission, many members on the site have reported problem with early 04 model, may be you should ask seller if the transmission has been serviced or not, oh yeah most important, TEST DRIVE.
I have a 05, so far the AT is fine, no symptoms of failure.
I won't about the engine though, these engine can go to 200k easily, just keep up the big tune up and regular oil change (you don't even need synthetic if you follow the MID)

Good luck

I would save a little bit more and get a low mileage 05 at the auction. PM me if you need info, I can refer/guide you if interested.
