Question Gold or Chrome emblems?

I want to make sure that I am making"the right" decision by changing the gold emblems on my car back to the chrome-looking ones.

My b/f doesn't seem to think it's a priority, but I do and more importantly it's my car. He thinks I should spend my money elsewhere and I only think he's saying that because he is the one in first place that wanted me to get them on when I took delivery of the car. I did because I thought that it would look nice; and it really doesn't look "bad" per se, but it's just not really my style. And ever since I've had the car, I've talked about changing them back.

It's $68.73+$4.12 tax + whatever the labor cost is going to be; so it'll be less than $150 with including my emissions tests (the inspection is free). The service guy told me that they would only charge me labor for the exact time it takes them to replace the emblems - anybody have an idea how long this could take?? I believe he said their labor is $86 p/hour. OUCH! Hell, the labor would end up being more than the freaking emblems cost; hope they "do me a favor" since I do take my car there for everything.

Gold or chrome looking ones?

I prefer the chrome emblems, and they look great on the white paint. I definitely give you points for creativity (with the gold), but sometimes just "eat" your losses make a change for the better. Besides, I've seen your thread on dealing with the TL blues and the change may perk you up some.

If you do change them to chrome, please post some pics of the "new" ride. HA

I prefer Graphite like the Lexus black chrome on your color. There are some threads on how to do it.

You said it best -- it's your car. If you like the chrome best, put 'em on. It's not your BF's decision. Let him pick the emblems for his car!

But since you asked for input, I say get rid of the gold. How about just a few chrome emblems. Have you seen pics of debadged TLs? I think these cars look really sharp with only the (A) symbol in the middle of the trunk. I've been meaning to remove the "ACURA" and the "TL" from my trunk and just haven't gotten around to it. There are lots of pictures on here of cars with this look.

Debadged & chrome

Remove the "Acura" & "TL" emblems & change the "A" emblems to chrome. it looks good that way.

Chrome.

You can also DIY to save a buck, if you want...the specs/measurements are in the 3G Garage.

I think Chrome makes the car looks much younger...
if you look at other cars with Gold emblems, you'll see the same car look much older than others with chrome emblems

I would say hands-down -- generally -- that chrome looks better on white than gold does. One thing to consider in your case, though, is that you have the parchment interior. You really have the whole "luxury" theme going when you've got white paint, parchment interior, and gold emblems.

Just something to think about, but obviously if you want chrome, then go with the chrome.

I agree! I see a few older (like 1st & 2nd Gen.) TL's around with the gold emblems and I see one blue 3rd Gen. around with them.

My thing is - if the front grill was just black or something, I don't think it would look so bad; but the grill has that matte chrome-look and it just doesn't flow. The front "A" symbol stands out like a sore thumb (IMO).

I don't think all cars look so bad with them, but placing gold emblems on what is to be a "sport sedan", just takes away the "sportiness" of it I think. And like you said - makes the car look "old".

My personal preference would be the chrome emblems, but with that being said you should do what you think looks best. Afterall, it is your car so you should be happy with every detail on the car.

Gold emblems make me think of a beautifully groomed older lady driving her giant Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham to bridge club. In other words, my mother.

That's just the image that pops into my head when I see a car with gold emblems.

That is SO funny and cute!
I know exactly what you are referring to!

My BF (who really is a peach) just has a lot of different ideas on things, which is probably why we're so compatible. He had good intentions with the gold emblems, and I did too, but every time I see another TL with the regular chrome, it just makes me feel a little "ghetto" (and no disrespect to anyone that likes the gold emblems). I feel like I should a) be a little cute elderly lady going to play Bridge or Bunko or b) I should practically be sitting in the back seat with my base and woofer thumping - and neither one of those is me.

This may be really trivial and meaningless to some, but for whatever reason, the gold is just really bothersome to me...........

I've seen the chrome emblem on a few TLs around here and they look fine. They look great on a NBP TL IMO.

Hmm.. for that price, I would rather buy a Type-S deck lid spoiler from hondacuraworld, but if you really want to change it Kelly, just do it. I would buy the parts and DIY though: remove the old emblem and replace with new ones. Labor at $86/hour is way too much for this and I can see them charging at least an hour for it.

The image I get is of a male pimp or drug dealer in said Cadillac.
Gold emblems on any other car/SUV make me think of the suburban wanna-be gangstas.
Chrome is better than gold. Black chrome might be a viable option, but I haven't looked at images of the TL with them, and sometimes black chrome fades and becomes flat, faded black on the Lexus vehicles.

Take it to a body shop not the dealer service dept.
They will quickly and painlessly make the switch.
They remove things like that all day long in prep for painting

Thats the spirit....and its basically a personal pref - not a major deal. But...they were asking for opinions here...which is why everybody is chiming in.

You either have to find somebody that has stock left (rare) or have em made yourself (replated basically). I found mine in the last buyout of a dealers stock and happened to get the last set available at that dealer when we were all on the black chrome emblem kick back a year or so ago.

Thanks. I'll watch out for them on eBay as well. I thought they might look good on my SSM TL.

I'm a lady and think that what you said is funny! Except you didn't inlcude "bitch" at the end. hahahaha. I always think of a Dave Chappell episode when he is with Wayne Brady and they're out cruising and Wayne stops to get money from his "hoes". LMAO. Love that show - but I don't want to digress....

Back to the TL. Actually while dropping off my car at the dealer last night the service guys were asking me why I wanted the emblems changed, yada-yada, and the one mentioned that he thought the only color gold looks good on is the NBP. Although he said it didn't look bad on the WDP either; which I agree, but again - it's just not me (...don't wear much gold jewelry either; I'm more of a platinum or silver kind-a-gal). It's all in personal preference...

I am SO excited to pick it up today - clean, fresh, and detailed in and out....and no more gold. I think I'm going to feel pimp-a-licious today! hahahaha.

Nice. You should sell your old gold emblems (but not to me). I'm sure they're quite eBay-able.

I am hoping that they do salvage them; when I got them on at delivery of the vehicle, the salesman told me that they all broke off and that I couldn't have them since they were damaged. I hope they do keep them intact, cuz I would plan on selling them.

Hahahaha! Glad you saw the humor in that! I didn't forget the beeeyotch part, I just didn't want to go too far in my act and make the ladies on here mad at me! LOL! Thanks for the "help"! I love Dave Chappelle, I bought his shows off Ebay! I definitely remember the Wayne Brady one where Wayne flips out and starts shooting people and smacking hoes while Dave is scared! Role reversal! LOL!

Glad you got your car hooked up the way YOU like it! No way we spend this much money and not ride in style the way we want right? Oh yeah, I also forgive you for not buying NBP! But WDP was the color of my previous TL (03 TL-S), so you cool!

Keep it Pimp-a-licious!!

That is exactly what my BF said to me this morning; he told me to tell them that I want them back. You'd think that since I take my car to the dealership where I purchased it for everything - all of the money that I spend there - that they would cut me a break and be honest. Car salesman often aren't too far off the path of a politician. hahahaha. But, they're there to make a buck and we have to keep them in business; no bad feelings towards the service peeps.

We're just keeping it real!

Please don't forgive me for not buying the NBP!!! That is the car that I wanted and had originally test drove; NBP w/ navi and camel interior. I was SO pissed when I finally was ready to purchase and they didn't have one on the lot. Another life lesson I learned: ASK! I could kick myself in the ass over and over again for not telling them to find me a car, instead of jumping at what was available on the lot. Guess I was just a little anxious? hahahaha.

I'm definitely excited to see it later. And my BF is cool about it; he knows me too well and knows that he may be the logical side, but I do what I want to do anyway [until we're eventually married!]. Just keeping it real....
