Getting some minor body work and paint. Paint the whole car?

Getting some minor body work and paint. Paint the whole car?
I have some minor body work that needs to be done to my rear quarter and then obviously paint. I went to Maaco today and got a quote, it is going to be $375 for the body work and paint for the whole quarter.
I also got a quote for painting the whole car, it came to a few dollars over $1k.
Here is my dilemma, should I just get the quarter painted or should I have the whole car done. It seems like a good opportunity to get new paint on the whole car if I am going to shell out almost $400 already.
I was thinking about doing matte black, I haven't seen to many TLs with that. Any opinions/siggestions?
I know Maaco is almost always the cheapest but will I be disappointed with their work? I plan on calling my dealer to see who they send their body work out to and get a quote from them as well.
Thanks,
Ian

to maaco and matte black. please don't cheapen the TL with a maaco job. matte black is a little over played and trendy (but...it's your car do what you like).

People are falsely lead that Maaco is bad. Let me get this straight with everyone since everyone are always misinformed. They are not bad, but the price they give you for the 'presidential' package is just an advertising gimmick. You're just getting paint, no clear or base coat. If you were to budge on a full three step paint job through Maaco the paint job will be good, if not, don't. Dunno why people complain about a paint job when they, themselves have no idea what there paying for. :/

I love matte black....I'd do my Type S in matte black-in a "New York Minute." Even better, carbon fiber!
I agree with the guys though-no Maaco.

Matte Black is an extremely difficult paint choice that should be left alone to only extremely skilled painters and shops. Having a shop like Maaco do the work will leave you regretting it, especially on a pretty nice car such as a TL. Please don't cheap out on paint and body work, it's an area where the saying "you get what you pay for" really justifies itself.

A quality, OEM or higher level paint job is going to cost at least $2500-3500 and maybe more. You want a shop that will pretty much take the car apart, you do not want anything taped. Headlights, tail lights, bumpers, corner lights, window trim, side molding, etc all need to be taken off the car to paint it right.
$1000 will get you a quickie paint job with excessive orange peel, minimal clear coat protection and they will tape off everything and in a year or so, where they taped the car it will begin to peel.

My TL is getting painted Fiji Blue Pearl right now for only $1,000, but I did all the body work and prep work. The original color was NBP, but the previous owner left the car out in the AZ sun way too much and it was almost gray by the time I purchased the car. Do I worry that a $1,000 base/clear paint job won't be perfect? Yes, a little, but leaving it as a black/gray mess was jot an option. Just as an FYI, I painted the door jams, the under side of the hood and trunk prior to delivering the car to the paint shop. I will post pics next week once she gets back and I get her put back together again. Do what makes you happy and Fiji Blue Pearl makes me VERY happy.

your better off getting it repaired on the quarter panel if there is any damage... then vinyl it to the color you like..

Macco gets a bad rap, but I think under some circumstances Macco is fine for a budget paint job on an older inexpencive car. The quality of the paint job is also going to depend on the particular Macco shop you go to. I got my old integra painted at Macco a few months before I sold it. I got the Ambasador package I think(whatever the cheapest one was) it was a single stage enamel. It came out just fine granted it looked like a $300 paint job up close, but it was fine for the car, and for what I paid. The car actually got tons of complements for the short time I owned it after it was painted. Anyways based on my experience and what I saw at my local Macco I would NOT take a 3g TL there, for any work. You will be much more satisfied if you spend the money and get a good quality paint job elsewhere. If your not willing or dont want to shell out the extra cash for a good paint job then I would just get the quarter done and painted to match at a reputible shop. My opinion.
