Kinda scares me that some people don't take care of their car's like they should....

For an overall recap: this correct?

Timing Belt
Water Pump
Spark Plugs
Valve Adjustment (Optional but some say required)
Valve adjustment is optional but recommended since some of the labor is part of the 105k service.

In addition to your list:

Idler Pulley
Auto Tensioner
Adjuster
Thermostat

Be prepared to add:
Side / Front Engine mount
Drivebelt
Drivebelt tensioner

Told them I was shopping around at all the Acura dealers and asked what the best price was and also asked if they could match the $100 off coupon. They run a great service department there. Very honest opinions and willing to work out something reasonable. I did not get the valve adjustment or ignition coils done... just the timing belt/water pump/tensioner/idler pulley and the plugs.
Just called them - they will do timing belt/water pump only for $1100. Not the deal they offered you.

How much did you spend on parts alone ? And where did you buy them from ?

I have a private shop that is willing to do it for $ 500 (no valves/spark plugs), parts included. That's why I want to know how much parts are.

Would it be too much to ask for a parts list w. parts numbers ?

Thanks

There are no part numbers here, but this thread may help you:

Also, check out www.acuraoemparts.com for nicely priced Acura parts with the pretty diagrams of everything. This is run by Delray Acura's parts department.

I didnt know franchised dealers ran specials like this, that is one hell of a deal. How do you guys find out about specials like these? Other than getting on mailing lists as preferred buyers, as I refuse to buy a car from a dealer

Each dealer is independently owned and operated so they all set their own pricing and deals. If business is slow, they may offer deals to get people in the door.

Has anyone thought of scanning in pictures of these ads into a repository so that we start building a database of what things cost and also people can try and get price matching at other dealerships? Or even an scan of the work orders after the work was done?

If someone has one for a 389 water pump change etc I would like to try this.

Has everyone had good luck taking their Acura's into a Honda dealership for this sort of work?

I used to take my TL to the Honda dealer that's right next to my house for oil changes. I asked them about doing the timing belt/water pump service and they refused. However others on here have done their TLs at Honda dealers so YMMV. There's no reason a Honda dealer shouldn't be able to do it. It's the same J32 engine that's in the Accords.

I just had my 04 TL timing belt/water pump change done at my local Honda dealer and they were running a special as well. They did the timing belt, water pump, serpentine belt, and auto tensionser. Total was $580 including labor, tax, etc... They had a coupon on their website. Another Honda dealer I called wanted $600 just for the labor! I guess it just depends on which dealer you go to. I would look on each dealers website for specials they are running. You can usually find a pretty good deal.

Hey everybody. Doing my 105k service in 1 month. Oil change is due in approx 2 weeks. Is there any part of the 105k service that involves draining and refilling oil or is the oil completely untouched during this job?

Thanks.

i got a quote from an acura dealership for timing belt / water pump replacement and they gave me a price of $1375...seems kind of pricey.

luckily, my wife has a Honda Cr-V and gets mailings from honda dealerships on maintenance specials, and one of the specials mentioned 10% off timing belt / water pump replacement, so i decided to give them a call. they said it is typically $695 for accords and they would have to call me back once they check on the parts for the TL.....got the call back and they said it would be $741 for my TL (timing belt, water pump, drivetrain belt and a few other minor things that i can't remember off the top of my head)...plus I can use the 10% off coupon so it will be about $667 for my car...sweeeeet! i made the appointment and am getting it done monday!

i suggest everyone compare prices between acura and honda dealerships for service since our TL's are basically accords so the parts and labor should not be double the price for the same services!

No, an oil change is not part of the 105k service. If you happen to need an oil change when you do your 105K service then it's just a coincidence and it wouldn't affect the service at all.

You actually have to drive to NJ, because that is where I got the deal from. At Hamilton Honda in NJ. Google them and see if they still offer it.

Yeah it's better to check your local Honda dealerships to see if they will offer it for less than Acura. Good luck!
