German Castrol?
German Castrol?
What do people think of it? Does it fit well with our TL?
I've heard nothing but good things about it. But our TL specifies a 5W-20, and GC is a 0W-30. Furthermore, many people have stated GC is a very thick oil to be labelled as a 30; in most temperatures it's closer to a 40. That sounds really thick to me.
Any thoughts?

And before anyone says this: YES I DID SEARCH FOR THIS TOPIC.
I found numerous threads, and many people are happy with the GC. But I guess my main question is the "thickness" of the GC. Is it too thick for our TL?

Bobistheoilguy.com -- GC is a highly endorsed product on the oil guy forums.
countless upon countless threads showing the GC performance is better than many other off the shelf Synthetic oils. There are also other highly endorsed products.
It is a thicker grade oil than what Honda recommends, but you shouldnt suffer any ill effects from its usage.
Order one of those blackstone lab kits, do an oil change with your choice of oil now vs german castrol.
FYI.... as I understand it, GC is only distributed in the US by Autozone, and they yanked it off their shelfs a few months ago. So it is getting harder and harder to find, soon the supplies will dry up.
Amsoil, Royal Purple, and Mobil 1 European formula are also supposed to be very good synthetic oils.
For what it is worth.... its the oil I use. I use it with either Mobil 1 or K&N oil filters. I used it in my Camaro, I use it in the TL, and I use it in my Scion tC.

Wanted to bring this back up to the top, as it's the best titled thread on the subject. Autozone is currently running a special on GC - 5qts plus a K&N filter for $27.99. Thoughts on the filter aside, you're still getting them at about $5.60/qt.
Thoughts on running the better 0w30 as opposed to a slightly less quality full-syn at the recommended weight?

the first number of the 2 is the viscosity at 32 degrees F, and its additives that make it act like a thin oil until it warms to operating temp of 200-220 F where the second number is in play- the regualr viscosity
No oil is exactly what is says- its all got additive packages to make it work in various conditions--it may be 25 with stuff added to make it act like 5 and 30
If you live where its below freezing overnight on a regular basis- 0 would benefit your engine at startup- flowing more quickly and freely thru the engine, 10 is fine if occassional freezing temps
the W actually means Winter, as in 0 Winter-30 once warmed to temp
In Europe they get a lot of days below freezing, and their oil change standard is higher like 10-15k miles!! plus driving at 110 mph requires a bit more protection via viscosity- to protect as parts thrash together at high rpm
Semi synth or full synth doesnt really matter- the TL engine is solid as long as you keep it changed and clean the passages now and then
I hear gen3 has a vtec slider sludge prob- I use seafoam and do some vtec runs before oil change to prevent such buildup on my gen2
Would be interesting to see an oil analysis done on this oil after 7500- compare heads up to other brands
