General TL question.. when do you replace your air filter?

Well, obviously i'm still running a stock setup, but I was curious to see how old my air filter in the car was.. it doesn't look that old (of course the car isn't all that old) but it doesn't look like it was replaced in the near past, i've put about 3k miles on the car since i've had it, I don't think this much dirt and oil/crap can be in the filter that quickly..

There's like.. leaves from trees I don't have, dead bugs, and a very apparent big black area where the major air flow is; i'm wondering should I just replace it with another stock filter for now? If i'm allowed to I would like to get a CAI, but that may not happen.. so has anyone just dropped in a k&n and called it good? (or is a drop in worth spending money on?)

I guess the filter is fine, i'm not looking to buy a CAI right now but i'd feel better if there was a fresh clean filter in it.. does the stock one suck horribly?

B2 service is usually in the area of 30K+/- miles, when the engine and cabin filters are both changed out. FWIW, our Odyssey's engine filter was really dirty @ 26K or so; we changed it before the 30K service.

I change mine once a year, which works out to around 14,000 miles. The stock OEM filter is a very good unit as far as filtration goes and not too bad as far as flow goes. It is a dual unit, which means it is oil-wetted on the bottom (the reason you see the dark splotch there) and a dry element on the top so as not to allow any filtering oil to enter the throttle body.

I'm waiting to change mine at 15,000. Seems to be the average rate per discussions. At that time, I will be modifying the entry point to make it easier!

I'm actually starting to get a wet mold-like smell when I turn the car on...I only have 8000 miles on my car. Could that be the air filter needs replacing sooner than normal

It might be the cabin filter which is behind the glovebox. Or maybe you have some left over food under your seat? lol

Cabin air filter.. $20 @ auto zone (Bosch)

I replaced mine and then I replaced the one in my friends 4Runner, it's an 03 with 93k miles - stock cabin air filter, it was NASTY and there is so much more air flow!

I'll probably throw a k&n in my car for now
