Gauge cluster swap

Gauge cluster swap
Hi all. I was just wondering if the 07-08 base TL model gauge clusters would work properly on an 05 TL, if would affect the navigation unit and how much it would likely cost me to get them installed. I'm pretty sure there are people here with 04-06 model year TLs that have done this before and my main concern is if they will work properly, things like if the actual amount of miles on the car will still be displayed on the new monitor or if it will in anyway cause any major defects to the navigation unit? Tell me how this works guys.

No it will not based on other threads I have read. Obviously they are cosmetically completely different, but I would imagine electronically they are as well. Hopefully for your sake someone can prove me wrong, but I think that's the consensus based on threads I have seen.

It's been done before: https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-photograph-gallery-96/2006-2007-speedometer-gauge-conversion-864104/
There's two issues with the swap though:
1: Since your car's electronic odometer is contained within the gauge cluster itself, the new gauge cluster will read the mileage recorded on the cluster, not the mileage on the actual car.
2: The 07-08 cluster seems to have a problem communicating with the 04-06 airbag module, since the swaps I've seen all had the airbag light come on for no apparent reason.
