Gas Question

I understand on our manual, it said to use premium gas (91 octane).
But has anyone tried using the Plus gas (89 Octane)?
Gas now a days are so damn expensive, and if our TL can take 89 octanes,
I would use it since I can only get free gas for 89 octanes.
What would be the side affect if we don't use premium gas??

Engine performance will decrease, but nothing major, this has been discussed alot of times already. I would use 91...i dont see why people cant afford gas the car but they can afford the car itself, it's like buying an 911 turbo but i don't drive it because gas is expensive. but since you get 89s for free i would go for it.

your TL has a very hi compression engine which makes it require 91 or higher, 93 being the other choice in some areas
Take a read on wikipedia for an explanantion- but overall- you will lose gas mileage that will be more than the price differance on 89 to 91

you can add certain fuel injection cleaners and octane booster to make up the 2 points, but the cost would end up being like buying gas in the first place
If you get gas for free- go for it- throw cleaner in it every month

if you gonna use 89 make sure you buy some Octane booster to go with it....couple dollars since you gonna get gas for free.

I read on the site that 91 is recommended, and a lower octane could be used with decreased performance. I'm with everyone else on this one, just go with what the engine was engineered to run, and recommended. I don't drive a lot so that is coming from someone who goes 1 to 2 weeks per fill up.
