Question Gas Mileage

What type of mileage are people actually experiencing? The sticker states 20/28 (for the automatic), but the computer says 19 for me. Could be because mine is only about 2 weeks old with 500 miles on it, but I expected better!

Thanks!

It's all in your driving style!

I was running 18 mpg before I shaved off couple pounds of lead from my foot

Now I'm getting 20 mpg under the same driving pattern (mostly city). I used to take off like a bat-out-of-hell from every street light, but I'm test-driving the new and gentler me.

I'm at about 3600 miles right now, avg mpg 24. That avg mpg is from probably the last 1500-2000 miles or so. In the beginning, I was clearing the MID after every fill up to see what I was averaging. In the typical mixed driving that I do day to day I was getting 24-25 mpg, but on long highway trips, I've averaged as high as 32 mpg.

I drove about 65 miles home from the dealership and the MPG was low. I noticed some time on the display, but no mileage. I was wondering if the enigne was run prior to delivery for a check. I cleared the trip computer and now get about 23 to 24 MPG on a 54 mile round trip drive to work...mostly back roads.

For what it's worth-I recently did 2,000 miles, the majority of which were highway miles, in four days averaging 72mph and 27mpg.

My engine really stated to loosen up aroun 800-900 miles the engine feels more free revving and the milage is creeping up a bit. I used to get about 21-22 in my I-35 and first few tanks on the TL I was getting about 19-20, it is now pushing 20-21. I figure around another 1,00 miles and the engine will be nice and broken in and milage should bump up a bit more and also be putting in Mobil1 0w-20 which should help a tad.

I'm getting 21/22 on my mixed driving usage with my AT. No long trips yet, but when I took it home from the dealer (60 miles away) the computer was reading 28mpg. I have 1.7K miles on it & have not noticed any changes.

I picked up my 5AT last week and almost immediately went on a 700mile roundtrip. On my way out (350miles). I averaged 30miles/gallon. On the way back I averaged 32miles/gallon. All of this was 70-75 mph cruise control highway driving.

Driving around town is another story entirely.... (heavy foot :o )

My intown mileage has been crappy, because I tend to accelerate upon take off. However, my first road trip of 400 miles, using cruise control, gave me 32 mpg.

I am averaging 24 MPG. My commute is mostly highway, with my round trip commute being 100 miles per day. I have approximately 8,000 miles on my TL after about 4-months.

19 MPG with only 500 miles is about what I was getting back then. It should increase as the car is broken in.

Well I am feeling better about the mileage! I figured it should get better as it gets broken in a little more.

I was getting 24-26, but after I put on my 19's (1.7% longer rollout) I get 22 in mixed driving.

Get this. I managed 31 mpg in my 23 mile one way commute over two weeks. Granny driving and 65 max, mostly expressway.
My test route netted 34 mpg on 20 mile trek with old EL 42 and factory fill. I retried with Falken tires and fresh Amsoil 0w30 and same 20 mile trek was 38 mpg. same speed, no wind, early am.
Now that is impressive. I noticed 1-2 increase from Falkens which
consumer reports noted as low rolling resistance. Amsoil does the rest. Of course you can easily stay in the teens with this 270 hp beast and city driving.

I just check my overall average (using actual mileage and gallons) I have averaged 27.1 MPG for 4000 miles. I have a 6MT and live don't do much city driving (less than 20 %) The trip computer agrees well with my calculations. I find I can get 30 to 33 MPG driving around 65 to 70 on the interstate, and when in town it drops to around 20.

Average 23-24 on mixed driving. I go 80 mph on my highway for about 12 miles of my commute but do 25 -35 when I go through the inner city commute. If I reset the MID and do mostly freeway, I can get about 28 - 29.

Leave the temp controlls to manual to avoid kicking in the AC when not needed. The auto setting seems to kick the AC often.

I have a 6MT, and a few months ago, I posted the following numbers on freeway driving. I would set cruise control at a certain speed, drive for about 5 miles, and see what the MID reads.

55MPH - 32MPG
70MPH - 28MPG
85MPH - 26MPG

This past weekend, I was able to get 29MPG average around 75 - 80MPH.

On my normal commute, 1/2 city + 1/2 highway, I get around 23MPG.

When I am really bad, it falls down to around 19-20MPG.

Hope this helps!

I have the 5-speed auto and about 3000 miles on the car. I am getting 19-21 in city to mixed city/hwy mileage. I just took a long trip from Chicago to Phoenix. Averaged 80 mph and got 30 mpg. I am happy with the 30. City is OK, but much better than my Audi A6 I replaced. That car only got 16mpg in the city.

Don't know what my mpg is yet - just got car last week and expect with getting use to 1st & 2nd gear (6 mt) I'm getting less mpg that I will eventually.

Have any of you actually checked the MPG? I mean filling the tank, setting the odometer, filling the tank again after driving , then doing the math. Trip puters/MID are not acurate. You might do it once to see how much the MID is off.

I've been keeping track of mine for a month and a half now...the only "error" I've seen in the MID is that it rounds the MPG number up.
