G-103: DIY-HIDs in Reverse Lights

im thinking of doing this install next week. is a delay the same thing as a timer? where do you guys get the timers from?
#82
I got mine off ebay but have NOOOO IDEA how to install it...waiting for bzyrice or somebody to lead my installer and I to the light haha
#83
bump anyone have an answer? please!! (: thank you in advance.
#86
Yah sorry guys, I have been pretty busy these past few weeks.. I really do not have an answer of how to install the delay. I have a Manual and did not need it. There are a few members who have installed it. Let me ask them.
#88
If i were going to guess I'd say the red and black wires are the switched part of the relay and the the brown and yellow would be the energizing circuit to start the timer. I don't suppose that timer can be opened, can it? Just asking, cause I can't tell where the leads go. I've actually got one of these on order, so I can let you know more when I get mine.

Wiring info here: http://www.caraudio-caralarms.com/dei-528t.html
I also found two more PDF documents online detailing wiring---Google is your friend.
I believe we are using the Wait To Start configuration. Can someone please confirm this?
I would scan and post the instruction sheet I received with my unit, but its so damned small I need a magnifying glass to read it!
Another DIY similar to what we are trying to do: http://www.hayabusa.org/forum/electr...lay-timer.html

Just did mine yesterday, figured out the 528T pulse timer wiring as well. I have a 2sec delay on mine to activate the reverse H.I.D's I also wired a tailgater on demand momentary switch. Works perfectly. I'll post up pics and maybe a wiring diagram explaining how to hook it up.

Here you go guys, for those of you asking about the pulse
timer wiring. The green +12V reverse Signal is the oem wire color from the + side of the reverse bulb on the drivers side. Everything else is self explanatory.

This is actually a pretty great pic!~ Few questions...
1) The on demand switch does not have a ground correct? Just 12V power that is interrupted to turn on/off?
2) The portion that says "HID", does that mean the 12V for the HID , ground and pwr? I've never actually seen an HIDs wiring harness so Im not sure about this portion. Did the timer come with the relay for this?
In the words of princelybug, nice....lol.

Thanks, Jamie. I do much better with instructions!
donnie: you are correct---everything marked HID refers to the HID relay harness. As far as the switch, it depends on if you use an illuminated one or not (I think). Check this diagram: http://www.oznium.com/rocker-switch/tech
A simple switch is wired slightly differently: http://www.oznium.com/black-paddle-switch/tech, which looks like what Jamie depicts in his schematic.
My question is setting the delay---did you use trial & error to get the timing right? Also, did you use any diodes?

The relay is just like any other relay you get on an hid kit. Pole 87 is the + for both hid ballasts or bulbs and pole 85 is - or ground

the number 30, 85,86,87 is that from the hid relay harness? also what type of switch did you use and where did you get yours? where is a good place to mount it?

In this position you should get a 2sec delay
I went ahead an added a fuse to the on demand switch. I also added a diode for extra precaution. Maybe not needed but better safe than sorry. Here are some pics.
Diode, picked it up at radio shack 1.99 for two. part # an4004
Rough drawing of how I wired that up. Note band is on the delay timer side. Band indicates the direction flow of current.
that is the actual relay. I used a momentary switch so you press it and as long as it's depressed it stays on when you let it go it turns off. That's probably the best for this. You can put it anywhere you like. Under the dash wherever
#105
You think those of us who have this are just gonna go around blinding drivers every night? No one here needs or is asking for your pitty. Tailgating is moving violation FYI.
Clearly this mod is not for you. But thanks for your input, very useful.

you can use any 12vdc 40 amp relay it's the connectors to the hid ballasts that need to be specific.
no. You just need a reducer for the power cable/wire. Remember it's going from bigger to smaller 4 or 8 gauge to 10/12 gauge.

i ordered the hid kit and relay harness already from DDM tuning installing the hid isnt the hard part but the wiring for the timer was what i didnt understand. when i get the relay will it have the numbers 30, 85,86,87 on it so i know what wires from the timer goes to the relay?
where did you get your reducer from and momentary switch? just wanna get everything before i do the install. where did you mount your switch?
you also run a wire from the green reverse wire up to the switch in the from right?
alot of questions but i just wanna get everything i need for the install

Here is a good site for anything you will need. Good prices too.
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/searc...roduct_type=62
The relay should be numbered. The diode is wired just like in the pic

You could solder the red and yellow wire to one single wire 1-2 inches long. And that end to the diode and the green reverse to the other end of the diode. I extended the reverse wire down into the trunk, where the majority of my wiring was.

Really??? I'm going out to the garage and rip all this out, and reinstall my old lights.

lol i guess that that "tailgating switch" is just BS right? lol.......anyone with ./000000001oz of common sense knows exactly what is intended with that tailgating switch..........if someone is tailgating you, big freaking deal....move your slow ass over to the right lane and be done with it.......if you are in the right lane already slow down and they will go
around you......
around you......
No one is denying what the switch is for.
Anyone with ./000000001oz of common
sense can see that. I hope I never have to use it. Ive been driving well over the speed limit and still been tailgated.
As for the blinding, I get blinded almost every night by some idiot with hid bulbs in
their regular halogen non projector headlight housing. Either driving in front of me in oncoming traffic or behind me. Hope you're not one of those drivers. That's 100% more likely to blind someone and is definitely illegal.
That being said, if you have nothing informative or helpful to add to this thread please go elsewhere. We all know your point on this. Stop clogging up the OP's thread with your comments.

thanks

Your logic is what's BS. Everybody knows that's it's illegal and you might get pulled over and cited. Like I said no one is going out on a tailgater blinding cruise.

.. I have used this a few times.. and EVERYTIME the tailgater backs off.. I feel much safer with having this option..
Btw, jptl, thanks for helping out with the timer questions! I would have tackled the timer, but did not need it..

Q: Connects to green wire and remote wire from HID relay harness?
A: No. The green wire is the car reverse lights wire. Connect that to both the red and yellow wires going into the timer relay.
Q: No ground needed for switch?
A: It depends on what type of switch you use. An illuminated switch will need a ground. A momentary or fixed switch will not.
Q: Where did you run this 12V to?
A: It depends on where you mount the switch. bzyrice mounted his in or near the center console, so he tapped the center console light for his power. If you want to mount the switch near your VSA switch or in the door somewhere, you can use fuse #32 in the drivers footwell fusebox.
Q: Do you connect these together?
A: Both of these are ground wires. They can be secured to the same grounding point.
Q: Where does this wire come from?
A: This is the main power feed to the lights. It connects to the HID relay pole 30 and is the extended wire from the battery---4gauge from the battery to the trunk distribution block, where he steps it down to 10gauge.
Q: HID relay harness that goes in trunk, correct?
A: Yes. This is the relay you should have gotten with your HID lights.
The additional diagram shows where to install a diode to make sure the electricity only flows one way into the circuit---probably not needed, but installed as a safety precaution.
Remember that most of the lines going into the relays are signal lines---that is, they do not carry a lot of current. They only trip circuits within the relay so they don't have to be very beefy. The exception is the main power line from the battery going into the HID relay, which is why thicker gauge is used there.

Im going to try to give you what you need. Make sure that you reference bzyrice's other thread on the tailgater switch for more info (https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=757118):

i did i grounded the blk, blk/white wire..ran the orange wire to the 86 side of the relay and the red/yellow to the green reverse light wire and as soon as i connect everything together the HIDS come on even if the car is off

well i hooked up the delay before i did the switch...could that be the reason? after i couldnt get it to work i just went ahead and installed the switch without the delay
