So they kicked all of their long-term users straight in the dick
Yeah, and just to clarify, it's not Acurazine's fault. It's solely on Photobucket and their ridiculous third party hosting agreement. It screws over about 80% of the threads I've bookmarked over the years.
The only way to get around it is:
1) The OP can purchase the subscription, so that their third party hosting is enabled.
2) The OP can find the original picture file and re-post or have a moderator assist them with re-posting.
Super sucky...

Agreed, it's solely on PB.. eff them.
If you go into the Photobucket album you can still see the pictures: LEDs - Maplight by Daniel Reim | Photobucket
I have a second Homelink unit that I've been poking around in and realized something infuriating. There are zero value resistors being used as machine-placed jumpers just before each bulb. That means the assembly line could have been setup to place non-zero resistors and LEDs on the board.
I might take a stab at replacing those zero-value resistors and putting SMD LEDs in.

Here's a revised way to do the Homelink buttons by 1) replacing the zero-value SMD resistors, 2) reusing the bulb bases and colored caps, and 3) underdriving the LEDs with higher value resistors. Between the colored caps and the lower current, this should look close to OEM in brightness.
Pictured:
5.1kΩ SMD resistors (Form factor 1210 / 3225 metric)
3mm round white LEDs (I=20mA, Vf=3.2v)
