No biggie. (I just ordered the right ones this morning - the wrong ones were already shipped. I doubt it will be worth the cost of shipping the 7440s back.)

Yeah Im with PeterGrant, shipping them back probably wont be worth it. So I took a little more time to find the correct ones and found them a little cheaper
http://thepartssite.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc? $10.87

but it may be easier to call them to get it verses login on and all that.

RawDogg- It's all good. Honest mistake.

Nodoze2004- Not sure if I read your post correctly, but the front marker/turn signal is a 7443 style bulb.

Maybe this will help someone........(my findings thus far)

Front turn/parking bulb(2ea): 7443
Rear turn bulb(2ea): 7440
Reverse bulb(2ea): 921
Fog lights- US model(2ea): 9006
Ceiling(4ea): 2825
Doors(2ea): 194
Trunk(1ea): 2825
Vanity mirror(2ea): 2825
license plate(2ea): 168
Glove box(1ea): ???
Center console(1ea): ???
Brake, side markers and high mount stop: all L.E.D.

The 2825, 168, and 194 are all the same size with different wattage.
5watt, 4watt, and 3watt respectively.

I'm having trouble with the glove box and center console. Manual says they're
1.4watt

Prob w/ LEDs would be that they're very focused .. no real wash from the lights, I'd be concerned that you wouldn't see any better. (Would look cool from behind though)

I did the installl on Sunday, I took before and after pics but because they are of a light source in the dark they didn't really show anything that's useful.

Good news, bad news about the lights, I can tell you having the reverse lights on against the back of the garage they did appear brighter, however I can honestly say I didn't see too much of a real difference backing down the driveway.

Lokius what are your questions about the install?

I dont really like the location of the reverse lights on the TL... my thoughts on a possible solution:
Smoke that whole plate around the license.
I think that'd look really nice on a black. You'd have to get bright bulbs for sure though.

What's the deal on the rear reverse sensors? Just curious. Sounds interesting. How do they work? How much involved with installation? Appreciate yer response . . . ('05 DWP TL)

If you check out PIAA 's website, you'll find more info there...
How bout a more specific description? I was on the PIAA site and could not make heads or tails from your description above. What series are these bulbs from? What URL do you have from PIAA?

could someone who has installed the PIAA W2 confirm that it is in fact a wedge style bulb as pictured on various websites and also, is the stock reverse light bulb a 921?

i ask this because on my 2K maxima, i have 921 style reverse light bulbs and they are twist in and NOT wedge style. maybe there are two types of bases for 921 style bulbs. looking for the truth.

one other thing to add is that some guys have retrofitted an H3 bulb, (35 watt and even 110 watt) into the maxima's reverse light socket for really bright lights that actually produce a rearward beam.

how this affects the wiring remains to be seen but if you live where it is pitch black this sure would come in handy as long as it doesn't melt your wiring, which it cetainly could with very high wattages.

Doesnt' this show in the manual how to change out the bulbs? I would look but my car is downstairs (rarely bring it upstairs <g>) and it's damn cold like 2 below zero outside so, I"ll just ask the question . . . PS how many people does it take to change a bulb in an Acura?

The PIAA 19224 is the correct model number. It is an exact fit for the stock bulb, which is a #921 wedge style bulb

The reverse light switch is a DIYers dream .. it's quick, easy, and even if you break something it's cheap to replace

To those who still have questions.
Open the trunk, and working your way in from either side:
1) remove the bump stop (round black cork looking thing) by twisting the entire stopper counterclockwise
2) remove the black strip (there are three points on the back) you remove it by popping the outside edge and then sliding the entire strip towards the outside.
3) remove the trim piece over the lock mechanism (it just slides off)
4) repeat steps 1 and two for the other side
5) You'll see the trunk panel is held on by several (I think 11) small black plugs. These are two piece units, pull out the center and the entire plug will come out similar to a dry wall anchor. You'll need to pull out 4 or 5 to get your hands in between the liner and the light assembly.
6) Ease the liner down over the lock.
6) Light assembly comes out with a quarter turn and a pull, then the bulb is removed by pulling straight out.

Reverse to re-install I broke two of the little black pklugs on removal, they cost $1.04 each at the local dealer. Aside from that this one was a no brainer.

Hope this helps.

thanks to brewmaster for confirming that i must of had a brain fart because i went and checked the bulbs myself last night. the 921 is indeed a wedge style bulb. i don't know why i thought it wasn't, considering i put them in myself a while ago. but anyway, sorry if i confused anyone.

OK. Got The PIAA w2. Install was fairly easy. The light is whiter and a bit brighter than stock when you are looking at it from the rear. Sitting in the driver seat and backing up, not much difference.

Hey guys. I just finished putting in white 9 LED lights for the license plate, and the PIAA bulbs in the backup lights.

They're great. While they're not a lot brighter, I think they do give off a bit brighter and a better light.

Two shots to compare the PIAA and stock bulbs:

And the two together:

Once the trunk liners is out, it's easy to do both in a just a couple of minutes.

When putting the trunk liner in, you might not want to leave the one screw to last, even though it was the first thing I took out.

The first two pictures (without the license lit up) compare the PIAA bulb in the left and the stock bulb in the right.

The last two pictures (with the license lit up) have both PIAA bulbs and the 9 LED white LEDs in the license plate.

Has anyone changed the turn signal bulbs to PIAAs? (Since I ordered the wrong type for the backup lights originally, I have a set that I think fits).

I'd like to change the DRLs too, but I think that's likely beyond my mechanical skills.

Yes, those are the bulbs I used. The really do look great. I can't measure the difference, but my impression is that they are brighter than the stock bulbs. (Unlike the 9LEDs, which are not as bright as the stock bulbs.)

I bought the white 9LED bulbs from tec_toyz.

PeterGrant,

Thanks a lot for the pictures!!!

If possible, could you please try to put the White 9LED Bulbs in the front center console (right next to the sunroof) so that we get a better idea as to how the WHITE LIGHTS inside the car would look...someone had previously put blue lights and they looked really nice, but I really would like to see how the WHITE LED's would look inside the car...and I'm sure others do too...

Thanks, in advance

- I got those PIAA reverse light bulbs and I'm going to install them this weekend...i can't wait!!!

Wink Cool but some work involved

I changed my bulbs last night, took me about 1/2 hour to change them out. There one screw you need to remove for plastic holder to the right of the locking mechanism. REMEMBER THAT and you'll cut your install time in half.

Anyways I the PIAA's are not brighter just cleaner looking. You can see the stock bulbs when backing up in drivers seat; however, the PIAA's you can't really see - they're a bit dimmer than stock but they look really nice.

Thanks for all the information. I got the lights and the checklisk of installation from this thread and installed in about 10 min:

Part Number: PIA19224
Bulb Type: W2
Wattage: 18w
Technology: Xtreme White

The little popup-pegs are easy to remove. Just use your finger nails to grab the popup and pull it out. If the larger piece does not come out easily, just apply light pressure with the liner and it will pop.

IMO the lights are a bit dimmer than stock

Here are PiCS:

New and stock in the light

New and stock in the dark

New and stock in the dark, dispersion pattern and color

Both New Straight

Both New Offset

Quick Reply: G-049: Back up lights too dim!
