Which fuses to pull to disable car?

Hi everyone,

I want to disable my car by pulling an under dash fuse. I want to pull a fuse that will do the least damage to car if anyone tried to start it.

I've narrowed it down to the DBW fuse #1, IG1 ACG fuse #18, and IG1 Fuel Pump fuse #19.

I've done some research and it seems the fuel pump would be the ideal fuse to pull, however I do not want any damage to the car and was wondering if fuses 18 or 1 will work better.

Thank you

DaeHanMeenGuk - I do not want to go about messing with the ECU when I reconnect the battery

NBP04TL4ME - To keep it short, my dad is a terrible driver and has totaled his car. He has a history of damaging the TL whenever he drives it and I do not have it in me to take the keys from him.

Please help

I'm not sure what the starter fuse number is, but I would pull that one. The fuel pump would also work, but your dad could crank the starter and kill the battery if he keeps trying to start the car. Perhaps pull both fuses ?

Your dad will eventually catch on if he can't start the car but you can. You should just tell your dad that you don't want him driving your car. Sounds like he has a history you can refer to for your reasons for this stance.

^ The other idea is to pull the chip out of his key? That's a semi-permanent solution to the problem.

I was worrying about the battery after doing more research.

Do you happen to see the starter in this fuse box diagram here

Thanks again

I took a look at a service manual I have and if it looks like if you pull #22 or #23 in the under-hood fuse/relay box, it should disable your ignition. These are in series in front of the ignition switch. #22 is also in front of the ACC HOT in ACC II and ON III.
I have not tried this personally and this likely is not convenient as pulling one from under the dash. Please also bear in mind #22 is a 120A so be careful. You may want to start by pulling #23 first - if you want to mess with with under the hood at all.

What ever fuse the main relay is. I did this on my old accord in order to get a free tow from CAA.

This is definitely the wrong way to go about this. What happens when he tries to start the car and it doesn't work? He's gonna go straight to you and ask whats wrong with it, in which case you'll have to either man up and tell him the truth instead of beating around the bush, or weave a web of lies because you can't be straight up with him.

You've also got to think about the big picture, it's not just about your car getting damaged. If he is really THAT bad of a driver, he's putting everyone else on the road at risk every time he gets behind the wheel. If his driving is as bad as you make it sound, you really should have that conversation with him about it. Just my

x3. Don't dance around the root issue because all pulling a fuse will do is keep him from driving off with the car and then comes the questioning. Now I haven't been in that kind of situation, but one can assume a conversation prior to him driving your car will be better than him confronting you on why you are purposely disabling your car. Have the talk. It may be uncomfortable, but that's part of life my friend.

This is a car forum, not a morality forum. No disrespect. All the guy wants to know is how to disable his car.

This is a car forum with some moral people in it.

I hope people come here to give not just technical information but possibly a good dose of common sense to go along with it. Some people on here have years of experience to share with the rest of us.

I had the a similar idea before too. I pulled the fuel pump fuse. Whenever someone(unnamed) tried to start it, it wouldnt even crank, but the electronics would work. I figured the reason it didnt crank was that the ecu senses the fuel pump isnt working. However everytime after this happened, it would leave a CEL on the dash. A quick battery disconnect for 1 minute always cleared it though.

Sorry. I gotta agree with the camp saying don't mess with fuses and deal head on with the real issue.

Why don't you just hide the keys?
