Frozen Doors

This question is mainly for those who live in the northern climes. Several days ago, my doors froze shut. Was able to get the driver door open. The best advice I was given to prevent this is to condition the seals. My question is, what do you recommend/use for this purpose. I know that there are special conditioners available, as well home remedies such as Pam spray and even Vaseline. Your thoughts?

Rub a bar of soap on them.

Puts a layer on it that keeps it from sticking. Something I was told back in my body shop days.

Interesting. Any particular type of soap? And is it applied simply by rubbing over the rubber seals?

No particular soap that I’m aware of. Just don’t use Dove. It’s not soap, it’s a beauty bar. Lol.

I live in the Minneapolis area. Any rubber conditioner from your local auto parts store should work fine.
PS: Go Vikings! (sorry, couldn’t help myself. What a game yesterday lol!)

Or soap. Since every one should have some in the house. Unless all they have is liquid soap. Still, you could by a bar soap.
Btw, that Viking finish was insane. Good day for football. The Steelers lose at home and the vikes win.

How has this thread made it more than 10 minutes without Shin-Etsu being mentioned? Used to be lots of threads discussing this and that was always the "go-to" recommendation.

Never heard heard of it. Do you get hungry 30 minutes afterwards?

Wipe the seals with Aerospace 303. Helps with wind noise too

Soap will tend to come off pretty quick. I recommend Olive Oil. To apply, take a rag, apply Olive Oil to the rag. Then shmear on all the rubber door, trunk, hood seals. Don't drench them, just a light schmear. It will keep the door seals from sticking.

After exiting the car, wipe dry the door jam and the rubber seal of all moisture/water. No H20 then the doors can't freeze shut.

Plan B

If it's possible to access the interior through the trunk or rear hatch then you can leave the trunk or rear hatch open over night just in case the doors freeze shut. Just make sure the courtesy lamp or warning lamp switch is disabled so you don't drain the battery if it's not a smart lamp.

01acls, it was a combination of rain, freezing rain, sleet then snow. In a 24 hour period, it went from 46 to 8 below; gotta love northern Maine. No fold down rear seats in this thing (that I'm aware of) and I'm don't think I'm small enough to fit through the 8 inch by 10 inch pass-through!

A tube of Shin-Etsu will go a long way. I bought mine many years ago for my various rubber seals across the car (I think specifically my sunroof seal is why I bought it) and I apply it a few times per year. The tube is still barely used.

Thanks all for the responses. I'll give Shin-Etsu a try. Now for those sticking door latches.
