Front windshield crack for no reason????

I just got done getting a car wash, so i went into the supermarket and when i came back out there is a long crack about 8 inches coming from the left driver side in the middle of the windshield. I took a good look at the windshield but it seem nothing hit it or anything, no marks what soo ever. I have acura's extened warrant, do you guys know if they will cover this issue?

I just got this car 2 months ago.

How much would it cost to replace the front windshield?

thanks

Mine did the same thing...just take it back to the dealership and they should replace it. As long as there are no marks showing a rock hit it, your good!

It is manufacturer defects, dealers should cover as long as there is no physical damage.

A stress fracture is a reason. I suggest very little happens with no reason.

Dealer may cover it under the 1Y/12k "whatever" warranty - otherwise, they will send you to your insurance underwriter. Depending on the length of the crack and where it is located, you may find a place that can repair it using an epoxy, waiving the deductible. But see * below.

I do not recall your saying where the crack started and stopped - we need info!

Some cars have weak A-pillars - some retro-fitted convertibles have so much flexture that the glass can break also, just from turning into a severely angled driveway.

For the TL, and cars in general, here are some likely culprits:

1) Poor installation - a windshield is a stressed member of a car's frame. It is also a critical component of the SRS*. The wrong type or non-linear application of adhesive can cause a "weakest link" effect
2) Defect in windshield glass - if one checks one;s windshield carefully, you will find a number of ripples, OEM or aftermarket
3) Temperature changes (hot to cold. cold to hot) which exacerbate 1 and/or 2.
4) A tiny rock impact, barely visible, into which water can enter, freeze, eventually leading to a stress fracture
5) Pounding - a large force applied over a large area may not leave a mark, but it can do the damage. After a car wash, could be someone got hacked off or was regretting sleeping during algebra class or whatever, ending up drying cars to make payments on the ol' crack pipe, and decided to smack down your windshield
6) Hell, there have been cases of frozen fish being dropped by raptors - this happened to a car dealer in Virginia that I know, and since he has used me in the past to figure out problems with "no reason", I played Sherlock Holmes with a motion activated camera. We found that an eagle, which as often as not is "opportunity predator" (it will steal another's kill, or eat carrion). was flying back to its nest in a powerline tower )not far from the dealer), and for whatever reason, dropped a frozen fish, obliterating the windshield. Reason they had not fouynd it before is that either the bird retrieved the fish, or another animal caught wind of it and lifted it.

RR.

Certainly not - not even I have enough spare time to make up that kind of stuff.

This happened to me exactly as described in the original post but it happened to my VW Jetta. I couldn't understand why it had happened as no rock had hit me and all of a sudden here's this big a$$ crack in my windshield after having washed the car. My wife and friends kept telling me that a rock was the reason, but I always suspected the temperature changes.

I am glad I know now that this has happened to other people, well I don't mean I am happy for their misfortune, but I am happy that I didn't dream my theory.

Hey, you are not out of the woods yet. I stand by what i posted, but I was the one who predicted oil prices would drop a lot 6 weeks ago - oh wait a minute, they DID! Never mind.
