Front license plate: optional or required?

I love the TL without the front license plate. Much nicer look. I'm ordering a new '06 A-Spec and would prefer not to have this on. Anyone know if this is required by law (in Canada)?

Required here in CA. Fix-it ticket plus $10 if you don't have it.

Check the vehicle code (VC) for your particular province. All the state laws differ throught out the USA and may be the same for Canada.

most states require that you display the same number of plates that is issued to you. I am a cop in oregon and you must display a front plate. The fine for not displaying a front plate is 179 dollars I think I would have to look to be certain but its close to that.

I hate having to have a front plate but at the same time im glad we have them, makes my job alot easier sometimes.

It's required in my state (Illinois), but I haven't had one on my car for at least 15 years. The dealers nevers give me any problems. I thought Acura might when I told them to not mount the front plate, and don't put any goofy advertising stickers for the dealer on the car or I wouldn't take it. They were cool about it, and just put my front plate bracket in the trunk.

I do have another car that has a front plate and I drive this car if I plan to do any drinking. Having a front plate is an excuse for a cop to pull you over to give you a sobriety test. So anyone who is thinking about doing it, also think about that. You don't need an excuse for a cop to give you a DUI/DWI.

It's front, back and a close up of the driver here in CA. One of the reason why they don't let us tint our front windows also. Totally

I live in mass and have a plate from 1981 which (in the day) was the only requirement. I had the dealer put the front bracket for both my cars in the trunk. They said well come back and ask for it later and I said I will take it now. I have not been pulled over for it, but I have seen cruisers bang U-turn to check out my car...

Ummm...am I misunderstanding you? You have a car with plates that you use WHEN you go out drinking?

Looks like its required here in BC
I'll see what the dealer says about this. They may not let it go off the lot without it on.
They canned photo radar in this province after 2 years so it may be a dead issue.

Required in Illiniois. Would love to take them off but it's not worth the hassle of getting pulled over or getting tickets while it's parked--both of which happened on my old Prelude. My wife got so mad about going back to the car and seeing another ticket on the windshield that I had to put the plates on.

My wife and I currently have three cars. The two nice ones have no front plates, and mine has tint (no no in Illinois as well). My wife drives a lot for work, so we have a third car that she drives for work. This is usually the car we'll drive if we go to a bar or something I have to worry about gettin pulled over for an equipment violation on the car.

:-D It's not just my bar driving car.

I don't spend much time at bars anymore, but I don't need the hassle when I do. It's just something people should consider if they chose to break the law and go without a plate or get tint or something. It's an excuse for the police to pull you over and check you out. In certain situations that could be bad.

its illegal here in NY but the looks of a clean front bumper are worth a couple hater tickets. I got two from road block and recently got two more while parked in queens. I always keep my front plate under the passenger seat and if i think i might get hated on i throw it on the dash and say someone bumped it off & i need a new frame or sumthin. That came in handy a few times

Does Acura make a cap for the bracket holes if you choose not to mount the bracket? Anyone know? I'll be asking my dealer in the next couple days.

They should have given you the plugs. Look in the glove box or in the trunk by the spare. If they didn't, go back and ask them for the plugs because they should have been in the car when you got it.

Check out the the big Screw Hole Covers for front plate thread.

Ron, thanks. Guess my dealer wanted me to keep his tacky looking license advertisement on the front.

When my car was delivered, the dealer told me I didn't need front plates (Texas). I called the police dept, and they said yes, but they don't enforce it. I've had mine for over a year, and no problems yet. I have been pulled over for speeding, and he did not say anything about it.

According to the cops in Texas, it's required. However, I've passed a lot of police cars, and no problems yet.
