Free Oil Change with Test Drive

My dealer sent me one of those standard flyer/pamphlet trying to get me to use dealer services. Inside it offered a free oil change if I test drive the 2009 TL.

has anyone here used this offer? It seems like there would be some sort of catch to it. I usually test drive cars for fun whenever my car is in for service anyways.

just answered my own question...

For any Chicagoland members, it's at Muller's Woodfield Acura in hoffman estates, Illinois.
My next oil change will be free after test driving either the TL or TSX.

"ALL NEW TSX & TL ARE HERE
Expires 4/10/2009

During your next service, save time to See and Test Drive the New TSX & TL. Receive A free oil change for test driving either car at your next service."

So you have to go into service your car. While your there test drive a TL or TSX and then you get a coupon for a free oil change? I guess that's one way to get you in service.

I wouldn't take it.

There's nothing free under the Sun.

I've got words that the oil used at Dealership is not 100% good for our TL.

It's a blend of 2 to 3 different types of oil.

I rather bring my Castrol Full Synthetic oil, instead of using their blend.

dealership oil no good?

that's the first time I've heard that...
why and how would they be using a weird mixture of oil?

And so long as it is new oil and matches the specifications of our cars, it shouldn't be harmful.
The only concern I have with ANY oil change is if they are replacing all of the oil or just a portion... we have no idea if they do a full change.

Not sure about the whole "mixture" theory,
but I do believe a while back it was verified that most dealerships use bulk quantity oil (basically new oil but it comes in barrels) from a manufacturer that offers a good price. Someone had pasted a dealer's invoice that showed what shipment of Mobil oil was coming in, etc, etc.

And eventhou our caps/books say 5W20, they may put in 5w30 (not that 5W30 is bad) if thats what they have on stock.

Also, time is money for a dealer...they probably dont let every last drop drip out of the pans like we do at home, so instead of emptying out 4.5 quarts, probably 4.25 quarts comes out.

Oh well....

follow up!!

so, I dropped my car off to the dealer for oil change. I mention the flyer about the free oil change with test drive and they just gave me a free oil change on the spot.. no joke.

They didn't take the flyer from me nor did i test drive anything (although i do enjoy driving new cars). Pretty much made my week.

That's if they really changed your oil at all. Believe me, I've seen it. While back, I brought my car in for oil change to 101 West in Calabasas. After about 45 minutes, mechanic drove my car through the service area, straight to the car wash area. They washed my car (lousy job BTW), brought it around, told me to pay for it at the cashier, all done. WTF! When I confronted the manager about this, he said it must have been some sort of a mix up and appologized. They finished my oil change while I watch them, and gave me a coupon for FREE oil change. So my point is, they may be giving away free oil changes, but do they actually do it. Maybe they do, and I hope that my experience was isolated incident, but like someone said here already, beware, nothing is free.
