Found a cool new feature on steering wheel

Sorry if this should be in Audio.... decided to press some buttons today to see if anything new popped up... and it did... I got a laugh... so might you...

While in XM, pressing channel up on wheel usually seeks through the 6 presets...

If you press and hold, it goes 1 by one through the channels.... or if mode is set to category, starts over at the beginning of the category.

Just what I have been looking for.

Not a huge XM fan. Commercials suck. Sirius did not have them.

Anyway, a cool find.

Cool, haven't heard about that one. I'll try it out tomorrow.

The steering wheel channel control selects amongst the station presets for every radio source (AM, FM, FM2, XM, XM2); the "mode" button on the sterring wheel selects the audio source (radio source, cassette, CD/DVD) so that drivers need not look down at the radio controls.
I don't remember what the channel control does with CDs or cassettes, though, since I so rarely play them.

I really hope you are right because I didn't think this existed and I always wished it did...
Like if you had xm on, the had the mode set to category, when you hit channel up/down on the steering wheel, it should just cycle though the category stations and not the presets.

press and hold and wait for the beep, then let go, goes up 1 channel, not the presets.... if mode is on channel, will go from 1 - 200 one by one... if mode is in category, will go throgh one category and start that category over

And just incase you don't know...the only music stations with commericals are like 4 channels that are operated by ClearChannel. When CC started to air commercials (due to a court ruling that they were allowed to), XM added stations that play the exact same format (so the # of commerical free music stations didn't change).

Both Sirius and XM have commercials on the talk/news channels.

never got commercials on sirius music channels, maybe that's changed ... just don't care for XM as much as Sirius, channels are organized better on Sirius IMO

Oops, must be '07s only...

I misread the original post, but my '05 steering wheel channel button doesn't cycle-- it just goes from one preset to another.
You must have found a feature added to the '07 TLs.

I just tried this on my '06 and it doesn't work either. As soon as you press the channel up/down button it goes to the next preset. Doesn't matter how long you hold it, nothing happens.

Workaround

As previousely posted, this doesn't work on the '06. Here's my workaround:

I have my XM-1 presets to my favorite rock channels for handsfree operation.

In XM-2, I have set one preset to the first channel in each of rock, counrty (wife), sports, comedy, traffic and pop. With the mode option set to Category, I can select a preset to define the category that I want to surf and then turn the channel dial to cycle through all of the channels in that category. I prop my wrist on the shifter and it is a pretty comfortable solution; not hands-free, but helpful in getting to those less often selected channels.

I tried it on AM & FM, works as well. Press quickly to scan presets, press and hold till it beeps and it will seek. Guess it's just '07

Just tried this on my '07. Very slick feature. I'll probably use it whenever the presets aren't doing it for me.

Good catch!

It also works for CDs. Touch it and it changes tracks, press & hold and it changes disks. Very handy.

Isn't "rap music" an oxymoron?

Anyone know if the software in the deck of the earlier 3Gs can be reprogrammed to have this feature? It's be really nice if that was the case.

I actually tried this with my 05 right when I got it... Holding things down usually reveals hidden features, but in this case, not with pre 07s... Oh well..

For $77 a year. If you're not familiar with this promo work around. Check out the Audio sub section.
