Fog Lights
I have a 2004 TL and I just replaced my fog light bulbs with these -- they are awesome!
http://www.eautoworks.com/html/ORD-L...s-no-14383.htm
Transforms stock "girly man" fog lamps into "light up a stadium" fog lamps. Install took about 10 min. I would recommend them. They give off an intense, exotic yellow light. In addition to looking very cool, they are very effective on dark rain soaked roads.
Make sure you get the 9006 or HB4 (they are the same).
Happy motoring

I wonder how the yellow light merges with the white light from the HID?
I prefer both of them white lights, but the pics, if any, might convince me.
Pics please!

Good luck with the PIAA bulbs... I had a pair of them a couple of years back for my last car (00 corolla) and they blew within 4 months. I never touched the bulb, and I was VERY careful at installing them. Frankly I would tell people to avoid PIAA's - way overpriced for their worth. Just my .02 though. Enjoy them!

I've swapped my stock bulbs out for Silvania SilverStar 9006 bulbs so the color is a closer match to the HID's. They work just fine.
The PIAA claim of 55W = 110W output is pure urban legend and is totally impossible. It's pure visual slight of hand.

as for that "55w" part, i thought the website was just saying you get a total of 110w in the twin pack they sell.
as for 55w = 110w comparison is not impossible, that is very doable if the 55w puts out 2x the lumens of 110w bulb (or, half the power for same lumens), means 55w is 2x more efficient than 110w.
wouldn't be nice if the windshield was a polarizing filter....

OK, here is a photo -- kind of difficult to photograph lights. The one from the side shows the color best.

I think that because the package was originally in Japanese, the translation will come across funny.
The Sylverstars are my fav too, but the Philips blue vision are great too. I would definitely go with either of these two if you are looking for a dependable, OEM quality bulb.
The PIAA Xtreme white would be the closest match to your headlight bulbs in color, but since the headlight is a projector, it would be difficult to match colors anyway.
I like the PIAA Ion yellow too, but it will sometimes give off a rainbowy effect. The bulbs I like best for yellow are Hella. They are a really deep yellow, similar to the foglights of some lexus', and the 1st gen TL's

PIAA claim
With a 55W energy output, it is able to produce the light as strong as a 110W regular halogen light bulb.
They say their DOT compliant Superwhites are 55W = 85W.
But as you say...
i thought DOT had some standards for max lumens for passenger vehicles??
And you can only get x amount of light out of y amount of electricity.

As I said, an urban legend.

My bad photographer skills probably do not do justice. I can tell you that in comparison to the stock bulbs, they have a yellow tint and are much brighter. I don't know about watts and lums and all of that technical stuff but I can tell you that they are noticably brighter and light up the road better than the stock lights.

i had similar piaas a few years back. they were called super plasma bulbs. i paid about the same as that site(100 bucks). the light output was pretty good and the color was perfect(slight purple), like an HID bulb. but looking back on it, i wouldn't pay that much for a halogen bulb again. they did last about almost 3 years tho.

"SilverStar" is one model of halogen bulb they carry. the others are not SS, just other models of halogen.
Philips has their CrystalVision bulbs which are same color as the SS's, but i cannot easily find their lumen output specs...

DOT does have a maximum lumen output standard. PIAA bulbs sold here include a little sticker saying the are DOT compliant therefore their claim of 55W = 85W output can't possibly be true without exceeding the allowed lumen output. Yet they claim compliance. Can't be both ways. And their 55W = 110W above is even more outragous.
And you can only get x amount of light out of y amount of electricity.

you may react faster if a whiter light reflects off a critter than a less-white bulb. i don't know if this holds true or not (the whiter part that is, it may just be that yellow is better) for human eye responses....

an Acura has-been
Here is a photo with yellow 9006 bulbs (not yellow ion which are a washed out yellow):
The original thread with them in it is:
http://www.acura-tl.com/forums/showt...5&page=2&pp=25
The link to the photo album that shows comparisons of left to right with the standard fog and yellow fog installed at the same time is:
http://www.imagestation.com/album/?i...12&mode=invite
With the yellow, you can tell a reall differnece than the HID and it is not washed out.
Note, sometimes image station photos do not load when linked, visit the site to see images.

I just bought 8500k, 80w fog lights, 9006's. Anyone put in bulbs of this wattage and had any problems? What's the max wattage an 04 5AT can support? I know they can support 55w, but 80? I need help...

According to the service manual, the fuse for the fogs, is 20A. That means the fog circuit was designed to continuously pass 240W without danger. So that would translate to 120W per side. So the wiring should be fine. Only issue would be the headlight housing taking the heat.
