Flying out tuesday morning to get my 08 6mt Type S!
After lots of searching I finally found the one I am buying. Its a 2008 black on black 6mt Type S. I never knew what a serious PITA it was going to be to find a 6mt Type S especially when you limit yourself to certain colors and other stuff such as 1 owner etc etc. I originally had a deal lined up with a super low mileage 07 in FL but that fell through after the seller was being very unreasonable about how we did the transaction. In the end im happy I didnt get it because it didnt have the interior I wanted. I finally found the one its in Kansas City MO one owner no accident history original paint and I even went as far as contacting the Acura delaership it was sold at new to ensure it was maintained correctly. Everything checked out so I put a deposit down and bought the plane ticket. I have purchased cars out of state before I know its kind of risky in that I technically never have seen the car or driven it, but this one I just have a good feeling about. My gut feeling worked before so im keeping my fingers crossed.
I will be posting pictures next week once I get it home. Im excited to get back into a Type S :-)

sounds good. i hope everything is as it should be when you finally see/drive the car.
nothing worse than unwanted surprises. make sure you absolutely love it before you buy it. good luck!

If the dealer is Jay Wolfe, I've had very good luck with them and would trust what they say. No experience with the other dealer in KC area (Overland Park KS).
I wonder if your new car is in here?

Congratulations; I hope all goes well! Quite a brave move to put a deposit down without seeing it as others have said...but positive thinking brings positive results! Good luck!

I know some people think im crazy buying a car the way I did but really there is no other way to do an out of state transaction. Remember I technically havent bought the car yet. I simply put down a $100 refundable deposit and nothing more. I did buy a plane ticket but the dealerships manager was so confident that I would be happy with this car he told me if I got there and didnt want it he would refund me 50% of the air fares for both ways. The dealership also arranged to have a local body shop worker go over the car while I was on the phone with them.
This is how I bought my C6 Z06 Corvette and the transaction went 100% smoothly.
This particular Type S was sold new at Jay Wolfe Acura but was traded into Northtowne Lincoln Mercury by the original owner which is where I am buying it from. Jay Wolfe was however very helpful with giving me all the detailed information about all the service visits of this car as it was maintained at Jay Wolfe. They said they saw nothing bad on the service history and all maintenance was performed ontime everytime. The car has average miles for an 08 right above 40K im paying $24.5 and it obviously still has whatever is left of the factory warranty. Not the best deal on a Type S but certainly not the most expensive one either. The only other 6mt Type S in my area was a 08 with 20K miles and they wanted $30,000 for it...no thanks! The other one I drove was a 07 with 54K miles but the thing just wasnt in great condition. It had a poorly resprayed rear bumper, horrible curbrash on every wheel, lots of front bumper rash from what looks like lots of highway use, and some interior issues.
What first caught my attention of this being a possibly very clean well kept car is that there is zero curb rash on every wheel. I know that may sound minor but im super anal when it comes to cars and a car with no curb rash to me means someone thats more careful with their car. Every TL I looked at had rash everywhere you would swear people drag their cars against every curb possible.
I will post back tuesday hopefully with good news :-)

Congrats on your new purchase! When looking for rare cars it's almost mandatory to shop out of town/state unless you live in a large metropolis. The key with buying out of state is knowing all the questions that will be even remotely important to you. I'm convinced that most people are pretty honest and will have a hard time lying to your face, especially if they know you're flying out to get the car. I always bounce their story off the carfax and make sure I ask as much info about their age and financial situation as I can. If you ask a question and they lie you're able to get any refund back, even if it was stated as nonrefundable. I've spent at least a half hour on the phone whenever I've bought out of state cars and both times I've been completely satisfied with my purchases, despite a few small surprises. Each time I learn a few new questions to ask. lol So far I've scored a 95 Miata M-edition with 59,000 miles in good shape for $3500 back in 2000, and I just got my 07 TL-S 6MT with 112k miles for $15,500. When buying newer cars my theory is, "how bad can a three year old adult driven and maintained car be?" I understand a used car will have some small blemishes or road rash if its got miles on it. My cars are all drivers, not show cars. Btw, plan on changing your trans fluid to the GMSFM as soon as you get it. Better to keep it from wearing in the first place than to wait until the inevitable third gear synchro issues.

congrats on new car! i just got my '08 type s six speed a month ago. youll love it! as for buying out of state goes, whatever... if there's a history for it, all the better! i bought my last car on eBay when i was deployed to iraq because it was the only car that interested me at the time; similar to how the type s was when i decided to find a replacement.

See the link below. There's some guys coming down from Chicago/Wisconsin/Minnesota. You can hook up with them and drive down for the weekend!
