Floor Lights Help
I would like to install floor lights. I have no clue where to begin. Has anyone successfully added floor lights to their TL's? Can someone post up instructions on how to do it? That was be awesome. I have tried search the forum but so far only seen pics. Haven't found any install instructions.
First you should decide what type of result you want to receive. There are different type of options available, but they all result in a different final look.
Do you want something that is ambient, like the overhead lights which stay on while driving?
Or do you want something that's bright, and provides light when you open the doors?
Different sized tubes and bulbs will give you different results. You usually have a choice from going with regular neon tubes, CCFL tubes, and led clusters.

I am looking for something bright when I open the door. My main concern is how to run wires and I have no clue where to start:
1. What materials do I need?
2. How do I run the wires?
If your looking for something bright to go along with your interior lights when they light up I would suggest CCFL tubes.
It will come with an inverter that converts the power and you take the (+) and (-) wire and run it along to the front from where ever you decide to place the tubes and tap into the fuse box. The fuse box is under the steering wheel area by the foot rest, or there is another on in the engine bay. You simply tap the positive wire into the interior lights fuse. There is a chart on the back of the fuse cover which tells you which fuse is for what, and there should be one such as interior lights i think, or anything else that turns on when you open the doors.
You take the positive wire and connect it to one of the fuse feet, and then just push it back in securely. The other wire you ground to the chassis.

Yes, anything bare metal. Usually you can just ground to any grounding screws that are already on the chassis. You will see a screw that's been placed into the chassis and some wires connecting to it. Just loosen the screw, and tap into it, and tighten.
If you are talking about the 6-led sealed module it should work.

Also, how is the life span of the CCFL tube vs the tec-toys 6led?

I haven't seen the RL's lighting yet, but I'm pretty sure it resembles something like the TL's ambient overhead lights.
We recently achieved this effect by using 2-3 LED pods with single LED's in my friend BMW. The stock amber dash went perfectly with the LED's, which don't flood the area with bright light, but rather gives off an ambient lighting (depending on how many LED's are used).

I used the CCFL tubes for my license plate lights, and the inverter has gone out on me once in a 6 month period. This is also taking into consideration that it's exposed to more extreme weather conditions.
I think you will be much better off with the LED's. They don't need an inverter as far as i know.

As I am preparing to have my leds to install this weekend, was wondering, is it possible to wire it so that the leds turn on with the headlights as well as turn on when the doors open? Is it possible to achieve this?
I have used the CCFL tubes and LEDS. Preferalbly for the floor lighting I like the LEDS better in the long run. Currently I have 9-LED lights under the dash and one for under teh front side and back side of the front seats. Since the car is a coupe I dont need much light in the back seat to see, plus I have some other custom lighting back there anyways.
I do not have them hooked to the door switches since it is just as easy to hit the switch and turn certain ones on and off.
This is lights on under the dash only

Lights under dash and front seats for a total of three lights per side

Back seat area

Trunk area - This is how the stereo came and looks. I added no lights to it. This is the new line of Lightning Audio Amplifiers that have the built lights in blue. They come in Blue only not different colors.

Sorry to jump in mid conversation but this footwell lighting interested me as well.
What I think we're saying here is the 9LED's (or any LED strip) could be wired (positive) directly into the fuse box grounded (negative) on some type of metal near the fuse box or so.
It sounds so simple I could even do it. (snicker)

Please Help
Please help. I think I messed up my lighting. I was wiring up my floor leds. I wired the positive to the light in the arm rest and grounded the wire to the bolt under the fuse box on the driver side. When I was finishing things up, I accidently had the ground wire touch the positive and I saw a quick flicker. Now my floor leds no longer light up and my light in the arm rest doesn't turn on. Can someone please help? I have no clue what to do. Everything else seems to be working fine its just the floor leds will not light up and the light in the arm rest is out. I checked the 2 fuses for interior lights and everything is good there. Is there a fuse for the light in the arm rest? What else can I check. Please help, I don't think I can sleep with this hanging over my head.

Tap the + onto a switched power or "illumination" source and one to gound.
Tapping to an illumination source will cause them to dim with the dimmer (which may not be good for the leds).

Anyone know how to tap it so that I can turn them on only when I switch my headlights on? That way they only run at night?

I wonder if they will be too bright, its defenitely a good price.
Its been month's since I delayed this project but I'm gonna try to get it done within the next week or two. So back to my options:
1. Regular festoon bulbs
2. CCFL tubes
3. Led modules
1. Which of these would last the longest?
2. If I were to go with the regular festoon tubes, where can I find the modules to plug the tubs into? I'm considering the festoon because I figure it would be easy to change the bulbs if they were to blow.
3. Has anyone put the led modules for the floorwells? How long have they lasted without it burning out?
4. Those of have used CCFL modules for the floorwells? How long have they lasted without it burning out?

The CC Lights for my license plate have lasted for over a year and still going strong. The ones under the dash are fine too, however I broke them when the 3M tape broke and I FORCED it back into place...
I dont have a great picture of the footwell light, but this should help.

ok so if you wanna do the ambient RL style lighting so when you turn on the headlights the footwell light turns on, do you connect all 4 bulbs to the fuse foot? I want to put bulbs under the driver and passenger seat and the dash as well.
