Floor Jack

Hey gang,

Haven't been here for a while, but I know there are a number of you who perform your own maintenance and repairs.

I am shopping for a floor jack and I would like your suggestions. My mechanic friends are telling me to avoid the Chinese built jacks and to spend the extra money on a quality Made in USA one.

I have been looking at one of these:

Supposedly, the Hein-Werner jacks are of a very high quality and last a long time. In addition, they are easily rebuildable unlike most store bought jacks.

What brand/model floor jacks do you folks have? Has anyone had any experience with the Hein-Werner jacks?

Thanks!

btw where is the jack point on the TL. There are 3 dots on the bottom with an arrow on the third one. Is this where it is?

Jacking points and front and back in the center, if you want to lift both wheels at once. Then the two side points for each wheel. I got my jack at Harbor Freight Tools. Not sure of the brand. That is a nice looking jack in the link but that price is kinda high. But then again it may be professional and very durable.

I had a Walker and now a Lincoln that I've had for probably 30 years and no problems. HW went out of business in the mid 90's and SHINN FU brought back the name and the new jacks are similar to the Lincoln's of the mid 90s, and are made in the USA.

Here's some reading:

Bottom line, it should be fine. Might want to look into a rubber cradle cover for added protection.

I bought the below linked Craftsman jack, jack stands, and crawler from Sears this past spring. It has worked great so far and had good customer ratings. Deal for $99. If you are lowered you may need to drive the front wheels onto small bricks to get to the jacking point in the front.

Got the same one.

What do you do to get the rear up with this jack, since it barely get the wheels off the ground?

No thanks. Their quality leaves a lot to be desired. I only buy name brands such as Snap-On, Ingersoll-Rand, Precision Instruments, etc.

You can try putting the jack on a board first.

I have not had any issues but I'm lowered 1.5 to 1.75" from stock.
