Cool Floor it!

For a new TL ... how long is the 'break-in' period? When should I floor it and see how fast it goes ...

The manual suggests 600 miles. I gave it a thousand.

I was accelerating pretty heavily at 500 miles, and flooring it at 1k.

600 miles only? I'm going to plan a trip from No CALI to So CALI when I get my car. Is it ok to use this type of a trip for the 'break-in'? I think i'll lose half to a full day on my trip, but it sure beats driving 50mph for the next month

That's me, and I hate to see someone else get credited.

I know you are not serious and read your entries with great interest. I love this forum almost as much as I love my car. There is always something going on and the information provided here is priceless.

This is truly a cosmopolitan group, joined together by a love for a car. Who would have thunk it.

I am glad I didn't find this forum before I bought my TL because it might have scared me off. I am saying this for the benefit of others who may read this forum before purchase, and they shouldn't worry because most of the problems are either minor, or if they are major then there are not many people with them.

Hopefully, the major content of threads here, the tire problem, will go away soon and be heard from nevermore.

You all enjoy your car, and feel sorry for me because I live in northwest Florida, where there are no hills, no curvy roads, no places to really let the TL have its head. I have driven in Germany, and I lived near Riverside so I drove the Ortega Highway many times. They could almost make the steering wheel optional for Florida residents like myself.

Sorry for running on like this, but I just talk because I like to type. Wait, where have I heard that before?

Being from Florida, and living far north of there now, no way do you get my sympathy. Snow sucks.

As for the break-in period, eh, whatever. My car's got 300 miles and I've prolly floored it half a dozen times already. Hey, I need to get up to speed on the interstate with these ridiculously bad drivers, okay? They make Florida drivers look positively intelligent by comparison.

When I purchased my Integra I had asked the sales person about a break in period. They said to just drive the car the way you want and it will break in the way you want. I'd be beating my head against the steering wheel if I had to keep my car under 60 for 1K miles. I never had a "break in" period, I think I ripped the car out of the dealer lot and hit 90 within the first 5 minutes of having the car. I've had the car now since 99, 98K, original clutch, 1st set of breaks at 92K, and no problems. Personally I think the "break in" period is a little bit of BS, but maybe that's just me, or maybe I just got lucky.

I am at 850 miles and I still haven't kicked it all the way down, but I have experienced the pep that the car has, Im waiting until 1K to really kick it.
