Fix-it ticket for front tints :(

So I got pulled over 2 weeks ago and was issued a fix-it ticket for my front tints.

I asked some local guys and they said they've just rolled down their windows and snapped a picture.

Does this actually work??

Sure, if the judge is a complete idiot. Find a similar color, take a photo of that.

In NYC, this does not work no more, as they became smarter about it.

could work depending on if the judge doesnt require a cop to visually inspect your car

Lol. That would be amazing if it did work. Possibly inside a courtroom where you would have to actually show a picture, yea it might work.

I had to bring my truck to a state troopers center/office. Two officers came outside and checked it out to make sure. Then they said I had to take off more (had 2 layers - thought one would pass). They didn't even measure it though. Just made me strip everything. Bastards.

haha. my sentiments exactly!

in cali, we must take directly to police station and they come out to inspect. i've had to do it 3 times for my last car.

pictures?! OMG. consider it your "get out of jail free" card.

consider contacting any anonymous driver with the same make/model/year/color without tints and switching plates? (of course, you'd have to make it worth their while as i don't believe the cops take the time to check the vin)

if you're foolish enough to try switching cars, etc. you'll only elevat what was a 'fix-it' ticket into a misdemeanor or felony...not worth it. strip the film, get it signed off and put it back on if you want..

I just have to bring a picture to court... either a print out or the actual camera. No inspection in IL as far as I know.

Its hard finding a TL with only the rears tinted. Boo I've been keeping an eye out when I'm driving.

I'm thinking I might just strip it...

Lame I know. Maybe I'll retint later on with something lighter than 20%.

Another option... roll down your passenger side window during the day and snap the photo from the drivers side... then up the passenger and drop the drivers side and snap from the other side. Dropping the background window should allow a lot of light in and make it appear like there's less tint.

You do, however, have the issue of them wanting NO tint, which sucks. Worth a shot to snap some pics and if it doesn't look good, then you'll have to strip 'em.

OMG you can do that!? Just take a picture of a car with no tint... and photochop the back windows? Or would that be too crazy?

I live in downstate/central IL (yes, there is more IL than just Chicago ).... Just got the TL a few weeks ago, and tint is on the agenda... I know a few ppl around here who've been hassled for tinted fronts (Illegal in IL)... so I was thinking of going 30% back and 50% front just to give it some contrast. Anyone seen or have this setup? Opinoins on whether it'll work or not???

damn that mustve sucked, i dont think they can do that in NY.... i think it has to be a moving violation and once they pull you over ...... a dckhead cop will tack on the extra ticket/s for ur windows being too dark

you'll get a lot of opinions on anything you're going to do with your car on here.... i suggest you go with your own judgment as it is your car and if you like it, then it works for everyone else.... we dont have to drive your car or even look at it... get my drift.

I wasn't told the fine if I didn't comply.

Thinking of just stripping it

On the other hand, stripping it isn't a super easy DIY

Well the cop was pissed that I even had the audacity to consider it a question. If they would have tested it, I don't know if I could have got a 2nd ticket....that cop was pissed that I was at his station with what was about 12% on the front (after the 5% was stripped). Hah, so he knew it was dark before if I tried to get away with that. I had it measured twice where it tested .5% (not 5%, .5%). Those were the days.

This is exactly what you should do. To strip and re tint will cost almost that much if not more. Add the wear and tear of removing the door panels and you are better off paying the ticket. Just roll the windows down if you see a cop or get pulled over.

I agree with Hi speed, its only a 40 dollar ticket here in Utah. Definitely not worth ripping tint off, having peace officer sign off ticket, taking ticket to court to prove tint was removed, and then having tint put back on.

You shouldn't have to see a judge for a fix it ticket. I just wrote a check out payable to the Clerk of County Courts and called it a day. I live in FL so it could be different for you...

Hmm I wish it was that simple to just pay the fine for a window tint ticket but what my Insurance Agent at All State tells me is that my premium will increase if I get a tint ticket since it will be counted as a equipment violation. I double checked this with him multiple times since most have never heard of this. This is really holding me back from getting tints

Damn bro on my previous accord I had to take the tint off pay the fine and have the car checked out either by a gas station and have them sign off some form or go directly to police station. Such BS
