Well it goes over the inner wiper. The moleskin should have an adhesive backing and it just stick right to the wiper.

Ask CR Laurence to send you a dealer listing around your area. It wasn't easy ordering one, since most of the dealers do business to business, but I was able to find one kind enough to order one for me. Good luck.

There are two "wipers" that touch the inside window. The one that's visible is on top, and there's one about a half an inch lower that also touches the window. I cut the moleskin channel liner in half giving me 1/2" strips and applied it to both wipers. It's too bad one of the windows already got scratched before I did this, but hopefully no more scratching. It was easy to do, just had to take off the door panels though, no big deal.

Question Florida Installer???

Has someone in Florida had the mole skin installed with tinting? Can you say where and how much?

Is the door panel stuck on with plastic sheeting and that gooey adhesive stuff? IOW, is it a messy job to take the panel off?

What did the speaker look like when you had the panel off? Paper or plastic? (Hey, I could be a bag-boy!)

What are you looking for? How to take off the door panels? Two screws behind the removable "door" behind the door latch (use a small screwdriver to push the tab of that "door" in and it pops out). A screw in the arm rest. The hardest screw of all is the one with the rubber grommet towards the rear of the car on each door. I don't have a good suggestion on how to take that off, hopefully someone will.

Once the panel is off, wipe the two wipers with rubbing alcohol, let it dry. Cut the moleskin liner in half length wise so you have two 1/2" strips and apply it to the upper and lower wipers.

Sorry, no pictures. I don't want to take off my panels again. Someone said they would post pictures though.

ok...

Thank you dante for referring me to this thread. I talked to my tint shop. He siad that they basically cut the inner peace off that would scratch the tint and he has already done a ton of TL's. Very reputeable shop...he does NOT take off the doors.

Thanks for all your info, though.
My research has found that a good tinter automatically knows what tot do as the Accord has the same issue and there many more of those than TLs. My tinter charged $10 for the moleskin and did it without asking. I didn't even realize it until I went back a few days later concerned that I may have a problem in the future. He laughed, said he gets a lot of repairs from other dealers for that reason, inexpierienced tinters don't catch it, good ones do and do it automatically.

Dude! That is scary! They cut off the inner wiper for the window? Yipes! That's kind of like cutting off your arm for a blister on your finger. That wiper serves a purpose.

I have heard (don't know if it's true), that good tinters always take the panels off and they don't cut the tint by putting it on the outside of the window and then tracing it around with a razor blade. :chainsaw: That scratches the glass. Good places have computer plotter/cutters that use software with patterns pre-loaded for your car.

The alternative to NOT taking off the panels, is to force plastic wedges in between the window and the panel and tucking the wiper down in- putting on the tint- and then telling you not to open the window for 24 hours. First time you put it down and up again, the wiper pops up the way it's supposed to be. Maybe.

I don't know if I'm comfortable with giving my new TL a "wedgie" right out of the box.

Question Top or Bottom? The moleskin!

Do they put the moleskin on the top of the wiper blade or underneath it? Or both?

There are two wiper blades- upper and lower. Do they put it on both?

got mine done by the dealer last week. I convinced them it was a Factory design problem, so they re-tinted the front windows and installed the felt strip (mole skin) for free... nice of them. This is my 3rd TL so they want to keep me happy, I guess...

The mole skin goes on the inner blade, the one that touches the glass.
the outer one is already protected from the factory.
the 1 inch mole skin worked like a charm! - no more scratches.

There are two inner wiper blades. It's a once piece, but two wipers. Someone mentioned cutting the mole skin into two pieces and felt both upper and lower blades.

Well, the tint shop where I took it to didn't do this. They put on the whole strip covering both upper and lower blades. I would have liked to have felts on both upper and lower blades, but can't complain too much. It's been about 2 months, and no scratches yet. Knock on wood...

I just called Acura today (my dealership) ..

they said they were unaware of this issue... and the advisor on the phone said that two people at his dealership had tint on the windows of their 2004 TL's and no problems. He then told me to hold for a few minutes, and when he came back, he told me he checked out both of these cars w/ tint, and BOTH had the scratches from the inner wiper - he said the owner's were furious that he pointed that out b/c they were totally unaware of it and up till that point very happy w/ their tint jobs.

Then i asked him if I gave him the moleskin, could acura install it --- he said no! This was "altering" the TL and therefore they could not do it. Bullsh*t .. so i left a nice little message w/ the GM and told him that I would be taking this issue straight to him, and beyond him if it wasn't addressed in a more appropriate manner.

they should fix it for you if they "really care" about you as a customer...
try to talk to the GM in good terms first, and see what you get...

then escalate if necessary.

does $250 sound correct for the tint dealer to install this protection from scratches? it seemed a little high to me at first, without the moleskin or felt they quoted me $150.

Xpditor, there was a thread/post (Aug/Sept time frame, not sure) regarding which was the best option to install the mosleskin. A picture of the wiper was shown and the question was asked; Top wiper, bottom wiper, or both? The consensus, I believe was both.

hey man, i'm in jax and i checked out "the tint specialists" over on st. johns bluff..they quoted me 150 and $25/per door to install the felt to prevent the scratches...so 250 for the whole thing...

$25 per window sounds about right, but $100 bucks is a lot if you consider you can do it yourself .... I did mine, it took about an hour for all four and that includes time spent "wrestling" with the first one 'cause I put it in upside down. (In case you were wondering the door panel doesn't line up right when you do that)

sup people, well i got my car tinted yesterday afternoon and they did an excellent job, no complaints (as of yet)...i haven't FULLY inspected their work cuz of the sucky weather down here in jax, fl. For the guy that lives down here and is looking for a good tint shop, i would suggest the Tint Specialists over on st. johns bluff near the 9A overpass.

Make sure they use a VERY high end Mole Skin when they do the Job.

3M is the best type of adhesive. Make sure they clean the surface of the wiper strips VERY well.

I have yet to have one customer loose their mole skin. I buy ONLY the best for my kit.

05 ???

Is it a problem only on the 04 or also on the 05 TL.

I have not noticed it on mine, but it is cold and I only had my windows down once or twice?

Let me know so if it is an 05 problem as well, I can fix it before I get some scretches in the film.

Thanks, Mark.
