First Oil Change - Someplace other than dealer?
Need some advice, we have 4,500 miles and are way overdue for the first oil change, we don't have time to take it to the dealer so I may go to the Jiffy Lube right near our place. Is this a good idea?
Thanks

Going to Jiffy Lube is probably better than not changing it at all, but not by much. If you can get the Jiffy folks to use the right oil, 5w-20, and a decent filter, you might be okay. of course, you will have to check the other points identified as part of the "A" service yourself.

I've heard some real horrow stories about Jiffy lube. The worse was when they put penetrating oil instead of brake fluid, into the master cylinder of a friend's Dodge Van. It destroyed the master cylinder and the ABS system.
Major battle, small claims court etc. But I guess it depends on who is doing the actual work. IMHO, you roll the dice at Jiffy.
I would change it myself if I were you.

If you do not care for the dealer prices then search out a independent shop specializing in Acura and/or Honda. Should not be difficult in your large metropolitan city. At least they would stock the correct filter and oil and would be familiar with the specs. Be careful with your investment.

Since there are a lot of recommendations for doing the oil change youself (and dont get me wrong I am with it too...)
Make sure you keep your reciepts from where you buy your oil and filter for warranty issues...
My 2 cents

I'll swim upstream. Love my TL and plan to keep it for a long time. I just have no desire anymore to get my hands dirty. I found a place years ago that has a long term crew that can be trusted. My place is a car wash that has multiple locations in my city. They also do fluid changes and state smog checks, no repairs. Your car history is computerized so they know what they have done and who did it and when. They work first come first serve like Jiffy Lube. This works for me as I have someone to blame cause nobody else changes the oil. They will install your filter and oil for a small fee if desired. Perhaps you can find something similar in your area. My car is also washed at a hand car wash a few times per week.

Heard a Jiffy Lube type place in my area forgot to put oil back in the after they had drained it. Gave the customer the car and needless to say he didn't get very far from the place before the engine seized.

i had my service B yesterday at my dealer. I went there, just asked for a oil change and tire rotation. He gave me a 27 point inspection for free... all for 50 bucks... and i had a 15 off coupon, so came out to 35. I was very content.
I recommend the dealer, cuz there is some washer thingy that is different from other cars, and if you tighten the drain plug too hard, u'll flatten the washer and u'll leak. When i looked at the invoice, it indicated,
labor
5 qt oil
oil filter
washer
so im assuming they replace the washer each time.
ur choice though.
