For 8k you can get a pretty nice civic in that price range. That's a car an 18 year old should be driving to get aquainted with the road.

 

You might want to seriously look into getting a 2G TL, I had one and loved it; excellent performance, ride quality and handling. They are going for pocket change now although most have high mileage. Whatever you get just be sure to get it checked out, maintenance can get pricey unless you can do it all yourself.
