So I finally got a chance to go against a 6 speed 4G sh-awd.. and man what a race... the 6-speed is considerably faster then the sh-awd (as expected) Ok, so, we decided to take it to a back road again.. where its basically about a mile long(maybe less) strip of straight road, no traffic..so we line up, and off the line he just jumps ahead in first, I didn't do a good start and on my side of the road there was a bunch of sand, which was a total kill cause I couldnt stop burning rubber till about 40...
so we go again, this time he goes on the sandy side (I told him its the perfect time to check his SH-AWD..) again, he jumps out in front, BUT by 3rd our acceleration was pretty much even, on 4th I started creeping up on him.. I had a big ass smile on my face as we passed the finish line neck and neck...
the third time, we did a rolling start and I won without much of a problem, because I didn't have to fight for traction as much..
but wow what a difference between the 4G manual and auto... if I was ever to get the 4G TL SH-AWD I would Never go for Auto, it kills the cars performance and the Manual in that car rocks!! I drove the car later and I loved the tranny, the acceleration is nice off the line, with almost no wheel spin but it feels kinda sluggish and bogged down later on in the gears.. maybe cause its significantly heavier.. and feels bulky..Plus the new can-opener grill just isn't working for me.

Nice job, stock for stock I feel the 3G TLS 6MT and 4G 6MT are pretty close in overall acceleration but the big difference on paper is due to the traction and launching limitation of the FWD 3G. In the full out runs, the 4G pulls harder 1st-3rd but the S is better 4th-6th. The 4G is the better 0-60 and 1/4 mile car stock but the 3G S has the triple digit and top end advantage naturally, being 300 lbs some lighter and FWD.

Sorry to break it to you bro but aside from what has already been tested and published, I had a TLS 6MT (not to mention an 04 A-spec in 6MT) and now own the 4G 6MT. Say what you will about other aspects of the 4G and your opinions of it but the 6MT is the fastest stock 0-60 and 1/4 mile TL to date. The 3G S goes down as one of the best TL's ever in my book but this shouldn't even be a discussion.

I wonder how well a TL-S 6-speed will fend against a 4G TL SH-AWD 6-Speed in a touge or just some place with more turns. I'm curious about the efficiency of the LSD on the TL-S.

I wonder the same thing... I need to find someone to take their 4G SH-AWD to the track with me and go thu some turns.. then maybe swap cars and compare.. I cant complain tho, my 3G type S handles really well, under-steer is well controlled and very predictable when going into turns and accelerating coming out of turns.. Personally I think the TL Type S, especially with grippy summer tires, is as good as FWD will get...Comparing my TL-S to my previous 07 Nissan Maxima, the maxima feels like a minivan on turns, and I dont even want to start with the torque steer and crazy under-steer

The TLS is till to this day one of the (if not the best) FWD handling vehicles ever. For it's time, and even now, it is a better handler than many of it's RWD competitors as far as grip and lap times go, not necessarily form a dynamics point of view though. The front drive concept just behaves differently in turns, it doesn't mean (if properly set up) that it can't handle well.

The data from willow springs is good because it's not a power course, it's mainly all turns, so it's a good measure of handling on any vehicle. The TLS is also nowhere near as powerful as all the cars that lapped faster so if you where to distinquish the two factors, the TLS would rate higher in just pure handling when power and acceleration are not a factor.
The SH adds the dynamic edge which allows you to gas all the way through a turn and not just when coming out of it and in most cases it demonstrates more grip with it's wider track and depending on the tire as well, plus it's system distributes power to the rear and the either rear wheel as needed actively for driving and handling. It's suspension is setup very much like the TLS outside of those areas. It's basically the TLS handling foundation going a few steps further. The SH clearly has many advantages but some of that is negated by it's weight, so while still better handling I don't believe it's a tremendous difference as the TLS appears to be able to still hold it's own.

Yeah the 6th gen Max was the worst handling of all of the Maximas I have owned/driven (very boat like)......Very un Maxima like thats one of the reasons why it was criticized so much. The current one has been rated as one of the best handling FWD cars recently although. I still would say that my Fav front drive car that I have driven was the 97-00 Prelude SH, it even was voted C/D's best handling FWD car under 30k in 97 or 98. Those things handle like they are on rails, a joy to drive on curves/hard turns!

Just to add another one of the best handling FWD cars of all time was the Integra Type-R. I do concur with Monte about the 97+ Prelude SH, it was on the top of my list of my favorite FWD cars. My friend owned a 97 Lude SH with headers and intake. Boy was that a fun car to drive. I loved hitting VTEC in it.
