Finally got a TL Type S

Hey everyone. I just picked up an 08 KBP 6 SPD with Ebony interior. It’s a Canadian car with 132k kilometers which is around 83k miles. I’ve wanted one for many years and finally was able to pick one up. I’ve been browsing the forum for a few months while I looked but still have a few questions.

1.) Acura hasn’t been any help over the last month with a certificate of conformity (I live in the states). Anyone know the best way to get this?

2.) if I change the speedometer do I need one from a manual car? I’ll never sell this so a weird title or not accurate mileage means nothing to me.

3.) Does anyone still sell the KBP A-Spec kit?

I’ve seen some on ebay but want an original not a knock off with fit issues.

4.) anywhere to find how to remove the heated seat button and other because the lights behind them are blown.

Thanks for reading all that and for any advice you can provide.

1. I am unsure what this is but intrigued to find out, this required for DOT approval and registration?
2. Why swap, again is this a DOT requirement?
3. Yes and No, I found the front and rear available in KBP but side skirts discontinued. Will need to buy and repaint. Found at Del Ray Acura online
4. I think if you search there might be some instructions or in the garage section of this forum

BTW...congrats on pickup I have 3 3rd gens 2 are 6SP.

My biggest issue is the letter of conformity. I can’t bring it to the US without it and they will only give it the Canadian owner. I’ve read on here a few who brought the cars over and was hoping someone who has sees this and can help.

1.) Acura hasn’t been any help over the last month with a certificate of conformity (I live in the states). Anyone know the best way to get this?

https://www.epa.gov/importing-vehicl...adian-vehicles

^ Maybe this could help??

2.) if I change the speedometer do I need one from a manual car? I’ll never sell this so a weird title or not accurate mileage means nothing to me.

Do you mean the gauge cluster? If so, IIRC, they are calibrated (correct me if I am wrong). If that doesn't bother you then auto should work. IMO just get the manual and be done with it.

3.) Does anyone still sell the KBP A-Spec kit?

See post #3. I would buy it and search for the side skirts criaglist, acurazine blackmarket, ebay, etc

4.) anywhere to find how to remove the heated seat button and other because the lights behind them are blown.

You have to remove the 2 silver trim pieces along the seats, the center glovebox, cup holder, and shift boot
Search replacing shifter or shift boot acura tl

Also congrats

Thank you. I’m basically stuck waiting on Acura. Hopefully they come through or else I’ll have a rare clean KBP for sale in the Canadian market very soon.

It was figured out or atleast we thought. Then someone at acura said otherwise. I have never had so many issues with a company then I have with Acura and a consistent story.

To sum it up. One person said no problem mail the documents. Sorry it took so long I apologize on behalf of Acura and that I should have the paper in 2 days because they will rush it. I went to get the car because the guy was going on holiday and wanted the money before vacation. As you can imagine he had a lot of people hitting him up for the car but I was first so he was keeping his word. We first needed the paper work from the Canadian dealer. I went up for the car and then the next day was told they don’t give letters to US citizens and that it can only go to a Canadian. Now the only person who an call is this other person who is on holiday and no clue if they will even give it to him. So I’m not sure what to do but wait and cross my fingers.

I met the guy at his house and even went in to fill out the bill of sale. I got pictures of his license and everything matches. He’s talked to me since then and said he tried to call and still they haven’t sent anything. The address on the title matches the house address. It’s not shady just that Acura is not being very helpful.

That's usually how we do it up here In Canada. I can put my car up for sale and the person who gets it from me will get the signed ownership, I can write him a note as well stating that I sold the car to so and so for xx amount of money and that's it! The person goes to the city and registers the car to their name.

I finally got notification the letter I need is on its way. I'd like to get a few things I know I'll need and was hoping someone could confirm.

Is this the bulb style I'll need to replace the radio lights?

Winter is what kills us up here. We spend most of the year in rain, cold, winter, hail, ice, melting snow lol and from April to about end of September is when we get nice warm weather after that it's uuugh. Lol unless you have a closed garage or store the car or cover it you're likely to get rust. But there's always the rust prevention spray(don't know what its called) but you have to do that yearly. Guess it depends on the owner...... Aren't you guys down there prepping for a winter storm tonight?

The car was garage kept and was not his daily driver. I looked under it before I bought it just to make sure. It took a lot for me to find one. I’m bummed all the Aspec kits are gone. The knock off ones on EBay say some trimming is necessary which is stopping me from getting any.

After over a month I finally got the letter and I was able to import the car from Canada. Took 15 mins at the border and I was on my way. Now to figure out what’s what with it and figure out how things come apart. Let the modding begin. Lol

Its 1 of 163 made in true blue with the black and grey interior.
Fully built motor, trans and rear with 39K on the body and about 5K on the built motor.

Always wanted a 03-04 Terminator. Great platform to build, just could never find a decent one for a price I'd be ok with.
