While perusing around on the world wide web, I stumbled upon https://www.cars.com/research/acura-tl-2005/. This atricle finally gives me more than just @DMZ 's post from years ago saying he heard/read somewhere that only 5% of TLs sold were manual(and less so for the Type-S models). This article on a reputable werbsite, stating these figures for the UA6 2004-2006 models.
"Our test car came with the five-speed automatic transmission, however. This is the one that most TL buyers will choose; generally fewer that 5 percent of buyers would pick a manual gearbox on a car in this class."
This means that my figures of 2007: 1700 6MTs units and 2008: 1300 6MTs units is more proven if following Acuras sales figures and using the 5% 6mt sales figures for the UA6 models.
Its interesting that the article writer said that most TL buyer will choose the 5AT, as if Acura had predetermined/set sales numbers between the two powertrains.
"Acura also has developed an A-Spec concept to explore an even higher-performance upgrade with a more than 300-h.p. V-6, 21-inch tires, track-tuned suspension, as well as adaptive cruise control that automatically applies the brakes if you approach a vehicle too closely. Stay tuned on that one."
Less than 5% of 2004-2005 3Gs were 6MTs Gatr! Ive been searching for this for a long time as Acura doesnt divulge sales figures between Type-S vs. Base and 5AT vs. 6MT.
2008: 1300 6MTs units is more proven if following Acuras sales figures and using the 5% 6mt sales figures for the UA6 models.
Yea I'll be keeping my 08 6MT Type S for awhile. Was gonna anyways...sure it's "modded" here and there, and has 120,8xx on the clock but it's worth more than the $10,500 I paid for it in October 2020 to me....
Looks like Comptech also had their own springs. I wonder what is more rare, Comptech Springs or ASPEC suspension?
I had the comptech springs installed on the OEM setup. This was back in 2007 or 2008. It's in my build thread, 1st page. I don't know if I still have the springs. I might, if I find the suspension. I tend to keep parts but god knows where I put them all these years later.
Nice man, Your an OG here! I was only saving for a TL in 09'. Ya, I keep all the parts I remove. Who knows, someday there may be a regulation to only allow functionally OEM pertol vehicles on the on the road. I dont wan to be that guy who sold his precats after getting PCDs. That would make the used market pop, and in doing so would get rid of many roadworthy cars due to used OEM part demand.

Those springs must be So Rare now.
Comptech springs, exhaust and rear swaybar along with the S/C were the popular products. They also had a short shifter that many folks loved.

They only thing I didn't order was the short shifter. On my TL now is the rear sway bar, exhaust and supercharger. Like I said, I likely have the springs somewhere in my home. I just don't remember where I put them.

not read the last part?
can't base production numbers off of that. its just a generic statement saying 5% of buyers would pick a manual in a class of car like that which makes sense.
Its class rivals were Audi A4, BMW 325, Infinity G35, Lexus ES300. If we look into its direct competitors, you notice that that the Manual gearboxes productions were Much more than 5% in those years. Besides the ES300 which only came in auto.
This is why I thought it peculiur that they mentioned "Less than 5%".
Roughly estimating, No other catagory was less than 10%. the Publisher seemed to have a pinpointed number at 5%. More so specific at "Less than" 5%.

there seriously is no production numbers of the TL or the Type S trim with options down to transmission????? I know with Dodge you could get all that info with a simple email. I would love to know the production numbers of the 07-08 TL Type S with the numbers in each color and with transmission
Your right, there are not direct numbers, but there can be hints.
Theres gotta be a way to somehow start counting vins and get a pattern going. Isnt there a letter/number in the VIN that denotes a manual?
If I worked for Acura I would tally every 3G that comes in and get sense. But then again 6MT owners may bring thier 3Gs in more often.
In my personal experience. There are more TLs in PNW than anywhere in the USA, by far. I see them ALL over. Type-S as well. There are concentrations of owners in SoCal, Texas, FL. But you dont see them on every commute like you would in PNW.
I Always peep inside like a weirdo to see if they are manual. Almost every time I crack a smile on my face seeing that its an Auto. Either Type-S or TL Sport, they are like unicorns.
This is why I find that in a large sample pool like my area, the 5% rule still persists.
This is Acurazine dammit, do we not have anyone "on the inside" to swoop the info for us, or knows someone who knows someone or has access to someone? We wuoldnt need paper evidence, just a nod that the less than 5% rule was a thing.
Knowing this, is there anyway to get a sample pool of TL vins?
I suppose we could do the same with chronological searches of TLs for sale. But wouldnt less people less 6Mt and more people sell 6MT privately as they are popular?
When I got my 92k one owner 6MT, the guys at the dealership said the owner had no clue of its value when he traded it in.
Funny story (well to me anyway) but when I bought my 08 Type S 6MT back in October of 2020 I paid the sellers full asking price of $10,500. Few reasons, it was in a color I liked NBP (even though my 07 Type S 5AT is NBP as well, but I didn't wanna hee haw around and lose the car over that) it was somewhat close to me. I'm in Springfield, Missouri (southwest) and the car was in Plano, Texas. Adult 1 owner, family guy (found him on facebook, yea I know but it made me more comfortable) and of course the condition of the car, mileage, yada yada.
About a year ago, after owning the car already a year I got a text from him. I still have it....
Jeff?
Hey Leo how are ya?
Pretty good thanks! Just wanted to say I now understand why you paid my asking price for the car.
We chatted over text for a bit, and I pretty much came away with the feeling that he didn't really think that the 6MT's were all that sought after at the time. Told me he had no idea they would become "a thing" and had always just driven manuals. He didn't have any remorse, but did say if he had waited another year he thinks he could of got more for it, with the market and the rarity of them (which I dunno if they are THAT rare, but who knows. That's kind of why I wanted it so much, I just don't think a ton were made, and however many were made...how many are left?
Oh by the way I asked Leo and he was fine with it...this is what he replaced his/my Type S with...

It's not often you hear someone say they "didn't have any remorse" about selling their 3rd gen TL. Many that had the 3rd gen TL have some sort of remorse about selling. He got a proper upgrade (Nice M3) which is already a "thing".
Ya, usually they feel they shouldnt have sold. Nice upgrade, bet it felt better to drive a paid for TL with lower insurance. But hey, its not like famine and hyperinlation are right arond the corner! Buy food now fellas(or a year ago like some).
Being a decendent from Ukraines 1931-1932 Holodomor, I was always told of the things that happened to my family there.

Fun fact,
My TL costs me more in insurance vs my fully loaded 2019 X3 M40i.
