So I went and got a 2nd estimate today hoping it would be cheaper and it wasn't; $731.90. What the hell? They all say that the high price is due to the tri-stage paint.

I feel your pain bud, I got hit by a truck tire on the highway. It cracked my paint on my bumper and lip, but I'm just going to wait till I get more rock chips before I get it painted. Good luck and the drop looks sick.

^^^ What he said. You were looking to go with the A-spec front piece anyways. It's going to be a helluva lot cheaper, and it's already pre-painted by HMC. Then you can start saving up for the side and rear skirts and install those together later on down the road.

Ouch man that sucks! I'm surprised a tire ONLY cracked paint. My front bumper is pretty beaten up from the previous owner so I'm going to go ahead and have it all redone. And thanks about the drop! I'm really happy with it but it's taking me a while to get used to going into my driveway at an angle so I don't scrape

Thanks guys! I've thought about getting the front lip now and then waiting on the bumper, but this shit is driving my crazy. Also a claim has also been filed so I can't really call and be like "oh I want to wait a while to get it fixed now"

Luckily my birthday is next month and my parents are being generous enough to pay the $100 deductable to get the bumper fixed. Besides dinner, that's my birthday present from them

I'm getting the sides and rear this Sunday and hopefully I'll have the front lip on within the next month or two. It's going to look goofy without the front, but I'm getting a good deal on the sides and rear from another member.

My car is finally somewhat coming together

Dam Tyler I am sorry to see that hot mess that someone left you. Please know that your car is looking better and better, once you get the front repainted it will look hot as shit again. Trust me I have found that with car ownership and modding there are always bumps in the road. But, those bumps are what drives us to research, learn and love our cars more than most people on the road.

Thanks Jessie! It sucks this happened, but like you said, there always bumps in the road of car ownership, and this happens to be one of them.

Have you dropped that sexy TL-S of yours yet?

Haha I COULD, but knowing my bad luck, I would get caught and get busted

I'm just going to save up what I can and get the other stuff whenever I can. My 21st is next month so I'm hoping my family is generous this year

Tyler, your cheating on that last picture as the ground isn't level. Don't try to fool us that your car is scraping the front. Good picture! Also, get a set of locks on those wheels before they get stolen!

Haha I know I know

I don't know how the weather was in Charlotte today, but it was FREEZING here today. Wind gusts up to 50 mph, so I just backed the car out of the garage for a second

And you're right, I need to get some wheel locks. Thanks Jon!

Thanks man! I'm running 245/40/18 all around, Kuhmo Ecsta Platnium. I highly recommend these tires, they are very very smooth

And I see you are in Jacksonville! I was born and raised in Orlando

Thanks Aaron!

I was mad for you when that lady hit you . You missed the Charlotte meet because of her!

Hopefully my car will fully come together within the next month or two and then we can be twins, well somewhat

Angry

Update:

I'm fucking furious.

I dropped off the car last night to get the bumper fixed. I get to school this morning and get a call from the shop. The guy working on my car told me that the previous owner had the front bumper repainted before and the shop didn't do proper prepping before they painted. They didn't remove the original paint before adding the new coat on top of it.

The guy also told me the shitty paint job is also why the paint is chipping and cracking off like it is. Then he told me I had 3 options:

1-He could fix damaged area, but would not warranty the work because it's likely it would happen again if I got bumped.

2-He could charge me $130 extra to fully strip ALL of the paint off the bumper and get it down to the original plastic and then properly prep and paint.

3-I would pay $170 extra and he would get a brand new bumper from dealer stock and properly prep and paint it.

Keep in mind that I've already paid the $250 deductible.

I opted for the 3rd option, to just get a whole new front bumper cover. I want the work to be warrantied and not done half ass like it had previously been. Also I thought paying an extra $40 for a brand new cover was a pretty good deal. I was surprised when he said a brand new one would be $170, but I didn't complain.

He also asked me if my car had been involved in an accident before and I said no. When I bought the car I got a Carfax done and everything came up clean. He told me that it looks like the WHOLE CAR has been repainted.

So whenever I get my car back, most likely next week, I'll be calling the dealership where I bought the car and see if they have any paperwork about my car. What I think is interesting is that the car was originally a LEASE. When the lease was up, the person returned it to a dealership. Then the dealership sold it to a private car sales place, where I bought it.

Is it possible that the original driver that leased the car, hit something and paid some cheap fuck place to fix it? Then they didn't tell the dealership and then traded it back?

I love my TL to death but after all of this bullshit (cracking dashboard, scratched windshield, and now this) I wish I would have kept my problem free 2001 CL-S

Its possible that the previous owner pulled a fast one on the dealer. If he did though, it most likely wont show up on the carfax. If it did, the dealer wouldve dealt with the previous owner accordingly.

I would have gone for the 3rd option as well. One thing Id definately do though, is when you pick the car up, make sure to get your old bumper. Its yours, I wouldnt let them keep it.

Did you ask why he thought the entire car was repainted?

I'm thinking that's exactly what happened. They probably got a quick and dirty fix without having it properly done.

And damn I didn't think about that! I can hang it on my wall

I'm just frustrated that I have to go into my stash money to pay for the replacement. Maybe this was just a blessing in disguise.

even though you are not at fault, make sure to ask your insurance if your premium will go up if you make a claim with them...

I called them and since I've never filed a claim in the 5 years I've been driving, my rates won't go up

I'm sure if something similar to this happens again, I won't be so lucky.

Damn man I'm sorry to hear

I have State Farm. I'm on my parents policy, so that may resemble why my rates won't go up. I paid a $250 deductible.

Shop around for a quote, but don't expect much leeway between them. This quote was the cheapest out of the 3 I got around the Cary area

Btw where in Raleigh do you live? Me and a few Acurazine guys around here are looking for new people to meet up with! I'm organizing a meet for the last Saturday of April. I'll be posting up information in the Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic Region Forums when I have everything finalized

Congrats on the new TL! Getting my windows tinted was the first thing I did to my TL as well. Search around Acurazine for a few hours and you'll soon have a list of things you want to do

Whenever you have enough posts, write on my visitor wall or something so I remember to PM you when the meet is going down.

Oh believe me, i can already tell the mod bug is starting to spread. Already have a list in my head.

I got the same feeling when the off road bug hit me on my Jeep Cherokee, that bug is still going!

Damn Tyler that sucks!! I swear I didn't see anything wrong with the paint on your car at the meet. But give the dealership a call anyways and see what's up, I too would be furious as hell! Then again how would someone paint the entire car and the dealership not notice it??

Thanks Alex. I always thought my paint looked great! Well besides already being 6 years old and the normal stuff

The front bumper always looked a tad off, but I figured it was just another part of the WDP curse, so I didn't think too much of it. Also, the paint seemed soft and got rock chips really easily, but I never though about it being repainted.

The shop my car is at is legit and the guy who called me earlier is more than helpful with this whole situation. Hopefully I'll have the car back soon and post up some pictures with their work. I'll also call tomorrow and see if I can take the front bumper home with me, since it IS mine, like civicdrivr said

Tyler, Even though the car has a clean carfax doesn't mean the car was never been in an accident or been painted in areas. I too had a clean carfax from the dealer. I soon found out the right rear quarter panel was painted. It had bondo on the right lower quarter panel. The body shop I brought it to fixed the paint for me and the car now looks like one color again.

Carfax is a bunch of bull shit! Carcheck and all the others can be looked at but unless you bring the car to an Acura dealer for inspection, you have no way to really tell if the car has had work done to it.

The shop you brought it to is an ass!! They gave you an estimate and they looked at your car. I can tell from the pictures you posted, the reason the paint peeled is because it was painted ontop of the oem paint. Why are you paying anything out of pocket??? This is an insurance claim meaning you pay the deductable and nothing more. End of story. If a car is in the shop and it needs more work, the shop calls your insurance and has them pay more for watever they need. PLEASE PLEASE talk to someone about this but, this doesn't sound right. I payed my 500 deductable and nothing more, even when the shop kept finding the car needed more work and parts.

Well I guess I'm glad I'm not the only one who got screwed by Carfax, but then again that's not a great thing to be happy about.

And you're right about the whole insurance thing. I'll need to call the place tomorrow and see what's up with that. He said that I would the bill would reflect the addition of the new bumper cover, so either that means I have to pay the difference or that the updated bill will be sent to the insurance company. Thanks Jon! And I'm glad to see your TL is back up and running again! Properly painted of course

Tyler, make sure this guy doesn't pull your leg on this one. I have never heard of bringing a car into a shop for an estimate, get the insurance company involved, then the shop comes to you for more money out of pocket...WTF? I sure hope you get your car back and its all good. If I found out a bodyshop was trying to pull a fast one on me, I would be contacting my insurance company letting them know you are taking it to another shop.

Tyler, insurance companys work 24/7 so do yourself a favor and call them tonight with your claim number and explain to them what the shop wants you to do. See what they say. If something isn't right, you might want to pull your car out in the morning. I hate scammers!!!!!

Thanks Jon! After I read your post, I went home and talked to my dad. He ended up calling the insurance place to get some questions answered. When I was in class this morning, both of my parents went to the collision center where my car is and settled everything. I'm not sure exactly how this worked out but insurance is taking care of everything up to $400. Anything after that, I have to pay for out of pocket

I still don't really understand it but if my parents say it's okay, and them being hard asses about everything, it must be okay. I'm just hoping the job gets done right and quickly. I miss my car

Wow, so you are paying about 425 out of pocket and you still have the insurance involved and you filed a claim to boot. I feel for you man because the insurance company is not taking care of the claim the way they should. So basically, you are paying 425 and they are paying about the same and they now have a strike against you.... That sucks! I just get pissed that we pay insurance for years and years and never need it. The time like this when you do need it, they only cover a small portion? That just doesn't seem right to me. This is car insurance not health insurance. I hope you get the car back soon!

If you are coming out for Cars and Coffee next moth, please let me know.
