Filters

I'm looking to change the air and cabin filters for an 05 TL. The dealer is asking way too much. Where is the best place to get these at a reasonable price? Thanks!

K&N isn't without its problems. Gains are dubious with the stock air box, and they often let in a bit more dirt. An over-oiled filter can foul the MAF sensor.

I've used www.rockauto.com in the past. The WIX brand stuff is pretty good overall for OEM replacement.

From what I've read on the forums, we don't have MAF sensors in our cars, we have MAP sensors. Either way, there can still be problems from over oiling a K&N filter. I had a drop-in filter and then a K&N CAI in my last vehicle and never had a problem. Everytime I cleaned the filter I checked the intake tube and it was bone dry. You just have to know what you're doing when you re-oil them.

Anyway, I switched out my K&N drop-in, after about 4000 miles, for a AEM CAI if anybody is looking for a drop-in. I will eventually list it in the BM but figured I'd throw it out there for now since the topic is being discussed. It's been cleaned but not re-oiled. I also have a brand new cleaning kit (cleaner and oil). PM me if anybody is interested.

MAP & MAF are sometimes used interchangeably although they are different sensors mechanically / electrically, be he's referring to an over-oiled filter clogging up the sensor in the throttle body. It's a double edged sword. More oil = picks up finer particles, where as a dry filter will only filter out large particles allowing in more dirt. I did hear of complaints about K&N allowing in a lot of dirt. My buddy took some PAM and sprayed a light coat on the outside and he said it improved the filtering properties but not so sure how it affected air flow.

Any other recommendations for the cabin filters? Talked to Tim earlier about my a-spec kit order and asked about the cabin filter. They have oem for ~$17 and checked the rockauto site and they have the Wix filter for ~$14. Also, I've seen people using charcoal activated cabin filters....what's the concensus on these? I'll do some more searching in the meantime but figured I'd see if anybody had something new to add.

I use a charcoal-activated cabin filter as well. My FIL is a parts distributor, and he gave it to me when we were there on vacation. It keeps the car smelling fresh/odor-free.

I forget the brand, though- d'oh!

O'reilly or Autozone - used both for my MDX without any problems. Cabin filter replacement was time consuming on the MDX - have not done it on the TL yet - but well worth doing it myself rather than paying $120 to the dealer.

You could just try a different dealer, my local acura dealer only charges about $20 for the air filter.
