feedback on my new headlights

Whats up guys. just another thread on blacked out headlights. wondering what everybody thought. i did it all by myself and it was kinda easy. just requires patience and time. its raining today, so tomorrow we'll find out if i did a good job sealing them back up! i used a lil extra silicone to ensure a good seal.

Before

During

After

after i did alot of reading, i noticed alot of people who cleared them on NBP, went over to blacking them out. i love clear, but i think it looks best on WDP or SSM. im happy with my results

its the only way to get the headlights off. there are alot of bolts & clips behind the bumper. it actually wasnt that hard to take it off, again, PATIENCE is a virture. took hour and half to take apart, and about an hour to put back together.

doing the lights took alot of time (baking, waiting, curing, baking, etc, etc)

i REALLY hope they don't leak

i used Duplicolor Semi Gloss Black Engine paint.

im on the queens border too. problem is, my oven was too small. i had to do it at the girlfriends and she wasnt too thrilled lol

my oven was 19 x 18" (and so was like 3 of my friends). you need an over thats about 25 x 20 for it to really work.

the whole process takes a day. it can be done quicker, but you really wanna get the sealing part done perfectly.

thanks travis. this was a scary thing to do.. when i put the first headlight in the oven, i was a nervous wreck!! did you see what i had to do to my car to get the lights off?

my friends came by and thought i was out of my f!@#ng mind for taking off my entire front end. it was actually pretty easy. hope they dont leak or get moisture in them

whens the next VSC meet?

Looks great!

And yes patience is important. Not to long ago one of my headlights leaked! I didn't think of it much and ignored it. One day I find the headlight with a fair amount of water... Apparently I hadn't securely installed my turn signal bulb and water leaked in.

When I was reinstalling everything I burnt the HID componet when I didn't connect the ground! Luckily my acura dealership took care of me...

i didnt think i did either, but honestly. its not that hard. all the effort MUST go into resealing the headlights. you dont want water or fog in there. all you need to take the car apart is a PHillips screwdrive and a 7/16" socket wrench (preferably, adjustable) and a flat head screwdriver to help pop off the body clips.

Good job. Patience is essential. I remember when i first installed mine, i didnt securely tighten my turn signal and had a little moisture, luckily i had to install the LEDs and thats when i discovered it. NO LEAKS YETT.. I am sure if you took your time and put some "extra" sealant on, you shouldnt have any problems

12hrs........

Looks good, but 12hrs of time is worth alot more that the $200 to get them cleared/blackedout.

But good job, I agree with the above.........should have left the shroud alone.

I was thinking about just buying the TL Type S lights and swapping those out. Does anyone on here know if they are the same size as the 05 TL?

Thanks Brett! I like Blackura_NY's lights, but I wanted the reflector in to help with the bulb. Chrome of the bulb blends with the reflector in daylight and lights up amber at night perfectly. Also, a nice piece of chrome look! A good alternative to the type that OP has. I got the idea from ding069:

they look great! i did a little more paint/masking in the corners than your job, but still, they look great! you still retain 100% full bulb output with your setup.

That's a great job man, I just got off the parkway and saw a black TL with cleared out headlights not even 4 mins ago, was it you on the grand central? I had on a green hoodie and fitted yankee's hat and gave the, " Nice TL " head nod to him.

Nice job on the lights man. Can you tell me with what you glued the chrome trim that crosses the turn signal area in the headlight? And which sealant or silicone have you used to seal the light back togheter? How many coats of paint did you apply?

thanks,

im looking forward to doing mine in a couple of weeks

well, the first light, i broke the black plastic behind the chrome and it got messy. i used epoxy and it did the trick. the second headlight, i was very careful when breaking off the rivets (that hold the amber in place) so the chrome piece was in place when i was done. i put a lil extra epoxy behind it anyway, just to be safe
