They're 3mm SMT's on a circuit board... Very difficult to replace becasue they're so small. I decided against it.

Ha, ironic. One of those blue LED's burnt out on my car about two months ago and took it into the dealer and got it replaced under warranty. Only thing is... they have to replace the whole unit - it is a circuitboard which also contains the homelink system, so you would have to reconfigure your homelink if you get it replaced. As far as brighter bulbs... ya you can do it but it is not an easy process lol; there are several threads about it on here...

^^ the 3mm SMTs are actually pretty easy to work with. The Xbox 360 LEDs are 0603 SMDs and were easy to solder. So if someone figured out how to remove the circuit board, this would be an easy mod.

4 screws to get to the circuitboard that has the leds in it... NBD at all. I looked at it, and am a competent solder iron guy... But I saw no real need for brighter leds considering the work. If you do footwell lining, there's more than enough light.
