Extended warranty problems!

I bought a CPO 2007 TL-S last year and even got an extended warranty on it from the dealership. paid $1800. i recently noticed that a lot of the buttons on the dashboard around the navigation doesnt light up now like it used to. took it to the dealership and they told me that the light bulbs were burned and they needed to be replaced. i told them that i have the extended warranty and they told me that it is not covered under the warranty. but when i bought the car from the dealership, i specifically asked them if the warranty would cover if the navigation or the lights around it wouldnt come on. and they told me that its obviously covered. need advice on what to do because they are asking $388 to get it fixed and i cant spare that much right now. and i cant believe i wasted freaking $1800 on that stupid warranty. here are some pictures of the dash below. the navigation works fine by the way.

I'd check the written copy of your extended warranty to see what it says. If the warranty says those bulbs/electronics/etc are covered in writing, then you're good. Otherwise DIY

to be honest, i dont think i am technical enough to do it by myself. thats why i spent the extra money on the warranty. i mean, shouldnt the dash lights be covered under the warranty? i dont even know where the warranty papers are or else i wouldve read the whole thing.

I don't think the extended warranty covers wear items like bulbs, brake pads, etc. It sucks they lied to you just to get the sell but you have to do your research, too! You can always cancel your warranty and they'll refund a prorated amount.

You know extended warraty only includes 70% or 75% of what the normal warranty covers?

Mine didn't cover the bulbs, they wanted like 300$ or something including labor.
No way

Wear and Tear items are never part of the warranty such as: tires, break pads, oil, filters even light bulbs.
When you buy new car with bumper to bumper warranty these items will always be excluded.

What is the cost of those bulbs? steallership should have just mention that it is not a warranty item and replace it as a courtesy and have a customer for life.

this is why I never buy extended warranty because half of the time they will BS so they won't have to pay for the service.

Of course wear and tear excluded.
When you are on extended warranty, coverange drops to 70%
When I had problem with something, they say, warranty covers it but let me check if extended does.

Only way to get a 100% extended coverage is while buying off the car as brand new.
Before driving it.
Drive for a day and go back next day to extend it, that 2 year extention covers only 70% of whatever the full one is.

I don't know the price for the bulbs, I didn't replace them...they did for free.

I think heat shield is covered
They replaced moms MDX for free (not extended warranty)

While I was on my extended warranty, they replaced my nav unit and the front screen for free.
Nav unit because while nav was talking, it made an annoying sound
and front screen because middle ball button wasn't working perfect
Lost all my adresses but worth it

Also AM/FM and CD/DVD buttons were not lighting up perfectly, and service said they have to send the audio unit to Alpine I think
because they don't open up the audio unit in service
anyways, for Alpine not to charge us, they said, CD changer is not working and while you opened it up, replace the bulbs too haha

all free

I would tell them if they can't do it for free since when sold the warranty you specifically asked about those lights that you want to return the warranty coverage and get your pro-rated amount back.

From what I understande ( at least in va) it is illegal to not allow you to cancel coverage. This includes GAP insurance and extended warranties. I recently traded my 2010 Scion TC in for my TL and canceled both my GAP and extended warranty and got a check cut to me for a good amount of money. Its probably an option and since you were lied to you should have every right to cancel yours. 1800 goes a long way in repairs that are covered under their "warranty".

PS the bulbs are about 4 bucks a piece 12 if you buy from a dealer and if you go to best buy most will charge a deck install (60 bucks) to replace them. I know here at my bay we charge about 100 for TL's and even charged 160 to swap colors of the bulbs and LED's on the radio. It's not that hard to do and doesn't take any longer than 30 min for me to have the nav unit out of the car and replace the bulbs that are out.

what kind of extended warranty is it? if its AcuraCare, bulbs are covered iirc. if its the dealer's own extended warranty, then likely no. Acuracare extends the basic warranty which covers bulbs, so if thats what you got then you should be able to have that done for free.

Pretty much, it is an extension of the basic warranty that comes with the car. That's why it covers a lot of the same items that are under the 4 year/50K mi basic warranty. Just about anything that is not a wear and tear item is covered. And as far as I know, bulbs are covered under the basic warranty.

Okay that's what I had

that extension only covers like 70% or 75% of the basic (basic one that came with the car 4 yr/50K

I am not sure if basic covers bulbs but extension doesn't. If it covers, that 25% or 30% includes bulbs.

What else that 25% includes? Not sure, didn't ask
I remember service telling me, that he will find out if problem is covered under EXTENSION warranty. A problem that was covered in BASIC warranty.

Car salesmen. Telling shoppers whatever just to make a sale since the early 1900's

In all seriousness, it doesn't hurt to give the stealership another try at it. Worst case scenario, some posters above offered some good suggestions. Good luck

I have an extended warranty, I paid about 1800 or 1080 for it.. cant remember.. It does not cover the lights... My passenger heated seat light (not switch light) works half the time .. So far thats the only light thats out for me..

The extended warranty only covers MAJOR parts of the car. In Canada the extended warranty is called Acura plus.

Here is what it covers:
http://www.acura.ca/owners/acura-plus/coverage

It is not a complete waste because it covers things that would normally cost you 500-2000$ to fix. But we do drive a Honda not a BMW so that stuff will probably not break… Except the transmission witch is covered.

Its hairy balls that all your lights went out like that

What is NOT covered in post 14 is the Acura Car Care extended Warranty.
They aren't covered, only the instrument panel illumination bulbs.

Extended warranty does not cover bulbs. Its considered and wear and tear and obviously so. With that being said. I just replaced all my dash lights. Its not horrible process but pain in the ass. I recommend just replacing all the bulbs in one shot because most of the labor is to take the dash apart. Replacing bulbs are 30 seconds. So don't do the labor or twice or worse pay for the labor twice when u realize other bulbs fry in a few months. Just my advice.

Give Acura Customer Relation a call and explain to them that the dealer told you this and that. Tell them which dealer you had the vehicle diagnosed at and they should take care of you. If not, bitch some more and tell them that you'd like to escalate this to higher management.

All in all, that should be covered under warranty since it's part of the Navi. Navi is covered under extended warranty.

Similar case happened to me last week. They told me that the Evap Emission Canister Purge Valve was not under warranty when i had 69000km and the vehicle is slightly over 4 years old. I asked the service consultant if they saw the word EMISSION in the part name since emission components have slightly longer warranty period. Called Acura Customer Relation and they took care of it no charge.

Don't blame the salesman, his job is to sell things, blame YOURSELF for not sitting down & reading the coverages BEFORE you signed it. At 50,000 miles I got the extended warranty thru my dealer, the warranty is with Zurich. I read thru the list of items covered before I signed the agreement & since then 2 things had to be repaired related to oil leaks, the 2nd repair was nearly $1,000 in LABOR ALONE. Anything can break on a vehicle at anytime, 50,000 miles to 100,000 miles with no warranty?
