Extended New Car Warantee 08 TL

Does anyone have any opinions about the dealer extended warantees?
My dealer is quoting $1641 US for extending the basic warantee to 8 yr / 75k miles.

Check over at hondacuraworld.com... You can get a lot more warranty for your money over there.

So even if the warranty were $1k the car has 5/70 or something like that, sure some of the bumper to bumper stuff will be covered, but do you really think a TL is going to need $1k of repairs in 8 years and 75K?? Maybe I'm just naive but If I thought I were going to need an extened warranty why would I be buying a Japnaese car? Sure America or German might be worth it, but Honda's if properly maintained in genral run well over 100K. Hell the gf has a 2000 Mitsu Mirage at 112K and NOTHING other than regular service ever needed. My firnd has 1988 Toyota pickup, 189K miles and I think he said nothing other than normal wear parts. I say put the $1K in a mutual fund or CD and when the warranty is up in a few years if you needs repairs withdraw from that.

One problem could cost your over 1K... I honestly wouldn't get a new car w/o one.

Generally, they are not worth the money. They are a huge profit center for both the Dealer and the manufacturer. The car comes with a 50,000 mile warranty already. $1600 is a lot of money to extend a warranty for another 25k.

Most manufacturers allow the purchase of a warranty extension as long as the factory warranty is still in force. It is better to wait to see if you bought a lemon or not. If you did you might consider extended the warranty. If not, save your money.

The power train is 6/70 I beelive so not many other thinsg in car will cost $1K and if you pay an extra $1K on every new car and use it once in say 3 or 4 carts are you really saving $3K, sure a tranny can cost big, but again the likelihood that the TL will need a tranny (yes I know Honda V6 trannies suck) on the current 3G is probably rare. That being said I have been known to put warranty on some items, but in general I avoid them, they are huge profit centers for delaers and the parties that offer them. They often have deductables and all sorts of exclusion claues that can give the provider some wiggle room. But I do understand peace of mind, hard to put a $$ value on that. And then I shoudl not tlak, becasue I don't usually own a car past the warratny period so I usually don't have anything to worry about.
