Experience at Dealership today

Today i went to the dealership today to pick-up my car that has been there since yesterday morning. I initially brought the car in because the engine somewhere was making a grinding, squeaky, chatter noise and I needed to get it checked out. My TL is a 06 with only 18k miles. I also brought it in because of the passenger seat that squeaked and that was fixed, they just had to order the part.

Originally they told me that they could not duplicate the noise from the engine, but the service rep said I will let you talk to a tech to discuss this. I told them I only hear the noise when the car was warm, and so me and the tech went for a spin. We got back to the dealership and I let the car idle and finally the noise kicked in.

Its a noise I get when only the car is idle and the engine has been warmed up. They concluded that it has something to do with the timing belt and that they would have to tear down the front of the engine to fix it and they they gave me a loaner again. Sounds like this may be serious, I noticed when taking a peek at the service garage all 4 were listening to the engine. I do not know alot about cars but they say the likely problem is the timing belt or something. They are very professional and have been great, they are Gillman Honda of Houston. Hopefully have it fixed tomorrow as I need to get back on the road and go back to Las Vegas

sorry about the problem....but I have similar problem for the passenger seat's noise, esp at night, which is weird...

did they have to replace the seat tracks, and have to remove the seat out of the car?

usually we replaced the whole seat bottom track and motor assy, and yes you remove the seat.

as for the engine noise, ive never heard a noise from the timing belt area..interesting, maybe a faulty idler or tensioner pully..

its not that bad of a job, and if you call that cramped. lol. go work on some audi's

Yea, they had to remove the passenger seat. They said they had to order 2 bolts or it would of been fixed that day.

As far a the engine noise i will keep you guys updated, the service rep not the actual tech said it was the timing belt, so it could be something else. I figured out how to duplicate the noise I was hearing from the engine because I had noticed I do not hear it all the time. Only happens when the car is idle and the engine has been warmed up, not cold.. Too hard to describe the noise except that it is loud, loud enough to hear from inside the cabin. Keep you guys updated on what they fixed.

Just spoke with the dealership and they said they are replacing the tensioner and they ordered the part. Is the tensioner called the belt tensioner or just tensioner or what? Curious too if my driving habits had anything to do with that going bad.

At only 18k miles seems like it went bad way too early!!!
