Exclamation ever been hit at near 80MPH?

Hello All-

I am a long time listener and first time caller. I have owned both a 2nd gen. TL Type-S, and as of June '05, a 2005 Anthracite TL. I have lurked in these forums since summer 2002, and I finally feel compelled to register so that I may share a current story with you all.

My '05 Anthracite is truly perfect. No rattles, no idiosyncratic experiences with my remote, , no ass prints on the seats, no tranny issues....nothing wrong! My car is perfect. I have the half nose bra on it, and I like the way it looks. I think the paint on my 05 is far superior to my 03, and has a harder finish. I put on the wood shifter, and it makes inside the interior seem a little sweeter; a little more integrated. I am 42, and this 2005 TL is my 10th new car since 1983. I crossed the 3100 mile mark, and my 70 mile r/t commute is a genuine pleasure.

I should have enjoyed my 70 mile commute last Friday, the 12th. I work in marketing, and I will work from home periodically. On the 12th, I decided to do just that. I had a very creative morning, and I thought I would go out and get a diet coke and stop off at the auto store for some polish. I like that “detailers wipe” stuff from Meguiers The whole trip was to be 10 minutes...and then back to work, seriously!

I left the music on in the house and left the house unlocked as I was going to be ou for just a few. I went through the drive thru and got my diet coke, stopped at Advance Auto and headed home.

For those of you not familiar with the Cincinnati area, there are a lot hills here. I moved here from Phila 7 months ago, and I like the novelty. The road that leads to my subdivision is a very hilly road, with twists, turns and two hills. If you are from Philly/South Jersey, you will just have to imagine something you've seen in the movies. The road here to my subdivision has two hairpin turns where the posted speed is 15 MPH. I was turning around the 2nd one when a red Honda Prelude was fishtailing around the turn, and HEADING STRAIGHT FOR ME. He crossed over the double yellow line and smashed into me at (the cops said) 78 MPH!! I get teary whenever I think of that. The kid that hit me had his license for three weeks and was either drag racing with VW behind him or it was an incident of road rage. Either way, I got it bad

Here are pictures of my new car: http://homepage.mac.com/ericroberts/PhotoAlbum24.html

My injuries are serious, but not life threatening. I got 40 stitches in my calf where a piece of plastic cut my leg, so I am bed-ridden as I write this. I had no broken bones, no neuro issues, but I am very sore. I have many lacerations, but they are healing. If you looked at the pics, then you know what I know.....I am one lucky motherfucker, one who had a great car to save him. I was going to get a Mustang last June instead.... how well do you think I would have fared?

I am writing this letter to tell anyone with a relationship with TL, that without the one I was driving two Fridays ago, you would not be reading this post. My son still has a dad, and my wife is not a widow. As soon, as I can walk, I am going back to Acura to pick out my next TL... ..just not the same color though...

Best Regards

OMG!

I am glad you are okay (well as okay as can be).

Sorry to hear that this happened, it does look bad but you made it out, so thats all that matters.

Hope everything works out for you, and I would def. look into getting some legal action taken on other driver, and not just what the state will do.

Good luck with everything.

Thank God you are ok. The TL certainly did its job in protecting the occupants. Hope you get better quick and we are looking foward to see the new TL.

Oh, My God... Thank god you are ok! Looking at these pictures, it's truely a miracle you came out with as little as you did... To all those drivers out there - here's a reason to buckle up! I'm assuming the kid is probably in worse condition, and probably intoxicated or stupid for driving that fast.

All the reason to choose the TL over any other vehicle... Taking delivery of my TL w/ Navi - WDP/Parch next week, this story makes me all the more happy to own one.

Good luck with healing and keep us posted on what happens!

Holy shit man. Glad to hear you are ok. Makes me even glader I bought the TL seeing you walk away from that incident "intact." The pictures are painful enough, I can only imagine.

Glad you are no worse off than you are. Get well quick. This is not the first TL donated to protect the passengers while being destroyed. We have made a good choice for safety.

WOW! I squirmed when I saw the pictures and happened to notice some blood on the seats. Very glad to hear you're recovering and didn't face serious injuries as the car did...

Just remember, it's only metal, as long as you're straight...

Glad your ok. I hope this kid has learned a valuable lesson. It's so sad that some people still think street racing is harmless.

I am so glad you made it out of that wreck alive. It is truly a great car. When I looked at the pictures I thought of my car. I hope I never see mine like that. Good luck to you...although I think you have already had some.

daaamn. After seeing those pics, I almost cried b/c I pictured my car like that.
I'm glad to hear that you're ok. I wish you a speedy recovery, and that kids who drive like that end up getting their license taken away until they're mature enough to handle a car.
Btw, when you're pickin out your next car, go w/ NBP haha.

I'm so glad you are still with us!!!

Oh my Gosh!!!!! The pictures have me shaken. I'm glad you "just" have stitches and apprehensions.

I know the car is just metal but hope the kids parents have insurance (and money) really go after them. the kid and his parents have to be taught a lesson.

You are in my prayers, I hope your recovery goes quickly, completely and uneventful.

And you are right the next car HAS to be a TL.

rest my friend,

Josie

Unhappy

I am really sorry to see you in this dire predicament. Glad your OK and very, very lucky to be alive because Acura/Honda vehicle engineers did their job to make the Acura TL a very safe vehicle. I hate seeing these accidents. Your lucky to be alive son. Machines can be replaced but people can't be. Some Angel is looking over your shoulders. Get well soon Eric Roberts.

Hope you recover well and fast!

Glad to hear you made it out alive. I'm from Cincinnati also, so I know of the hills and sharp bends you speak of. What part of town are you from? This is the second set of pictures that I have seen of a TL totalled and the drivers survived, that just has to show you how well they have designed the safety features.

I wish you a speedy recovery and a quick trip back to the Acura dealer for a replacement.

Thank you for your kind wishes. Everything will mend, and I will be on my feet again soon.

In response to some questions:

The kid that hit me had to be cut out of his car. I was advised that his legs are bad; like bent at right angle bad.

I found the crash in the local paper. http://news.cincypost.com/apps/pbcs....8130347/-1/all

also, I didn't see my life re-occur 'before-my-eyes', there was no bright light, and I was completely conscious during the entire event.......and kinda disappointed on all three counts.

My post was cathartic towards getting my mental equilibrium back on center, and your replies have been very comforting. Thank you

Remember my TL when that miniscule spot of tar on your TL just won't come off~!

I am sure that you and all of us are glad that you can write! Please do so as often as you like if it helps. WOW, the Post gives accidents two sentences each. Nice point about the tar, I hope some people get it.

WOW! It must be the Anthracite! I don't think I have seen too many totals in any other car - maybe we blend into the background or something.
So good to hear you will be OK and that your family will still have their Husband and Dad around. Life is short enough as it is -

So friggin dead on about the tar or rock chips etc. Ya never know what life has in store for you.

Well, not happy to hear about the other kids injuries, but you know what - let it be a wake up call to him that a car is not some friggin toy.

Rest up and get well soon - ya got some shopping to do

Wow, I don't think anybody's first post was like yours. Simply amazing!! Big Man upstairs took good care of you that day. I am glad you were not more seriously injured.

The Prelude driver should be locked up if you ask me for endangering people like that. What a f'n punk.

get well soon!!

Glad you are healing, both mentally & physically. As awful of a situation it is to live through, life still pays us dividends. The perspective of your family, friends and own mortality is likely the best dividend.

And to a lesser degree, but still one we can all share with you will be the aquisition of your next new TL. We can all celebrate the time when you are up and about in your next ride. Keep us posted.

Damn! Glad to hear you're ok (no serious injuries). That car's trashed, but considering how fast the other guy was going, I think it points to Acura's safety (as do your minimal injuries).

I used to live in Cincy and still have family there...it's got to be one of few places where if the sign says go slow, you'd better go slow...there are some back roads in Redding and Blue Ash that are ridiculous (and the cops in Blue Ash live to catch you going 5 over).

I hope you get better soon...take care and don't be a stranger!
