Question Engine sound at idle

Before I start, I have a 05 5AT w/ Navi..

I noticed something "new" today.. While I was sitting idle with the engine on, in the park position (emergency brake on as well), I would occasionally hear a sound (it almost sounds like a fan of some sort) start up, then turn off after about a minute. It doesn't necessarily sound "unusual", but its the first time I actually heard it (I always had music on so I never heard it before). It sounded like it was coming from the engine area. Has anyone else experienced a sound like this?

The air conditioner was completely off (no vent either), so I don't think it had to do with that.

Car's only got 800 miles on it... Any help/insight would be greatly appreciated!

I assumed that to be the case.. The only thing I wanted to confirm is that it has an "off/on" behavior of about 1-2 min at a time, and that the sound is noticeable if sitting in a quiet environment.. Thanks for helping out!

Yep, you are right. The fan is controlled by a coolant temp. sensing device (thermister, I think) which results in intermittent fan operation.
