engine more noise with chevron supreme 91

1st time puting in chevron supreme 91, noticed engine making more noise than before. i can hear noise even at 2000rpm. this wasn't the case with the free tank from dealer or arco 91. this is only my 3rd tank. what about your tl?

Strange.. do you mean the individual combustions are louder? Or just an increase in noise in general? Did you notice a difference in power? And is it with one Chevron station or did you try more than one?

I've filled up 6 times since picking up my new TL 3 weeks ago (I have a long commute, that's why I fill up often). I've put in Chevron once; all other times 76. Haven't noticed any unusual engine noise. The car drives very quietly. I usually stick with either Chevron or 76, no Shell and certainly no Arco. Very happy with the car.

One problem is the difference in octane in different parts of the country. In Tejas, we have 93 octane premium. That extra 2 points is important, but the computer in the car will adjust the timing if you use lesser grade gas.

I am finding very hard to accept that the fuel is causing a change in the combustion process that would be perceptable - Chevron Supreme fuel is top of the line, and its prime advantage, decent amounts of detergents, has no effect on engine performance in terms of sound. I use it exclusively and my car is dead quiet enginewise, until I VTEC it.

If it was from the same station, tanks might be compromised, or they bought some grade B fuel from the legendary "midnight oil delivery truck" that contains something less than CS - I would try another station and report back if your symptoms persist ( and take 2 aspirins and all that).
