Engine blown!! Need replacement in LA/SFV
Hey Acurazine,
Just got word that my engine is completely done. Being that my car is only 10 yrs old and I love the damn thing too much, I am looking into a replacement engine. Does anyone know where i can find a replacement engine in the Los Angeles/ San Fernando Valley area from a reliable place? Any leads or names of places would be greatly appreciated. I already searched google with only out of state shops coming up as results. Thanks in advance guys/gals

how did you blow the motor on a very stout platform?
did you suck up water?
did you over heat the engine?
Because; if you did it to this engine, you will no doubt do it to the other engine.....
Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market to source anything from local junk yards...enter in your info and what you are looking for and website will spit out results.

^you dont even have to replace the engine...you can just buy the heads...
or re-machine your head and drop in new valves.
if you do go with a used engine; it likely wont have the timing belt done and you will need to do that.

What caused the belt to snap? If it snapped at only 135K miles (yeah, that's beyond the 105K interval, but these belts have gone far longer), then there was probably something contributing to it's demise. Frozen cam journals and leaking tensions have caused this before.
At any rate, Justn is right (did I just say that?
), you likely only need new/rebuilt heads...

Seems you have three options:
- Have your heads rebuilt
- Buy a set of heads from a bone yard (car-part.com is a good start)
- Buy a set of remanufactured heads from one of many reputable shops (Google can help here).
Yeah, I'm thinking SoCal has the highest concentration of bone yards in the U.S.; back when I was in college I used to frequent yards in the Chula Vista area (south of San Diego) looking for cars with straight bodies and blown engines or transmissions to buy, rebuild, and resell. Kept me in beer money.
Keep in mind if the belt broke while it was already running, the valves were probably already bent before the mechanic tried it. Not saying the mechanic didn't do more damage...but the majority of the damage was probably already done. It isn't like the engine just stopped turning the moment the belt snapped before any valves made piston contact.
No, I'm pretty certain the valves were toast when the belt broke. It's just common sense not to crank the engine after replacing the belt without first hand turning the engine to confirm the valves are fucked....
