Embarrassed an Eagle Talon TSi
I was sitting at a train light in my suburban city, waiting for a train to pass. This was last night (Monday night) about 1:00 AM, so it was pretty deserted. I was the only one there on a two lane road. This Eagle Talon with 2 teenagers pulls up beside me, windows down (mine were down too). I look over at them, and they look at me and ask me if I want to race. Being the safe guy that I am, I tell them that we'll see who can get to 80km/h first (speed limit is 70km/h). Well, when the train finished, we go across the track and hit a yellow light. I stop, he stops, and then when it turns green, we go. I owned him in first gear. I hit part of second and then backed off cause I was at 80km/h. He was about 1 car length back, and his turbo JUST started up.
by turbo lag! I have a 1996 Acura 2.5TL by the way, auto.

I know he woulda owned me if we had gone any faster. That thing is totally torqueless before the full boost of the turbo kicks in. I was long past 4000RPM (my torque peak) before I heard any blower noises at all. His low torque engine combined with the burden of AWD and lack of driving skill killed his launch too. It takes the engine extra effort to get that AWD moving, eating some of his initial torque.Oh yeah, and after we stopped again he looked all pissy and wouldn't look in my direction.
many people have told me that once you put 2 or more people in those cars that they get bogged down real quick from the weight, which does and doesn't make sense to me. never been in one myself though so i couldn't tell you.
