Question Effects of Hard water on paint?

Does anyone know the effects of hard water on car paint? I'm asking this because I just got back from a week-long trip without driving my car, and apparetnly I had parked it next to a sprinkler. Needless to say the car is literally covered with deposits from the water. It almost looks as if somebody took a spray bottle of water mixed with toothpaste and then let loose on my car... I know our water here has a high relatively high percentage of chlorine, but is should I be worried about this other than the obvious eyesore?

Thanks.

Well it makes the finish rough, and you can only get it out by either cleaner polish or claybar, so have fun!

do a search on autopia.org the water is "hard" and may etch the paint a dilute solution of vinegar might get rid of the deposits but a polish and a wax or sealent will need to be done after. sprinkler h2o followed by intense summer sun for a week you may need a somewhat aggressive polish to rid yourself of the etching sorry

It's just scale, so some chemical like vinegar are able to take them off, some product to do hand dishwashing have some EDTA to avoid scale.

But in both case if you will need to wax your car after. If the water was already well waxed it should be easy to get rid of scale deposit.

Worse come to worst you will probably need to use an abrasive chemical such as a polish to take the water marks off. Do it soon!
