East Coast to West Coast road trip, any suggestions?
Hi, guys,
I am actually planning on moving to the west coast pretty soon (I currently live in VA) Since this is my first time driving across the country, I would really appreciate it if you guys can give me some suggestions on what to prepare.
My 06 TL 6MT has 130k miles on it. No major issues, timing belt was replaced at 100k. There is a very minor P/S pump leaking which has been there for about a year. Since it's very minor, the dealer asked me simply to keep an eye on it. (The last time I did the multi-point inspection from the dealer was a month ago) Brake pads has about 60% life left. The four tires have about half life left. (6-7mm)
Here is some of the things in my mind to to do before I leave:
1. Getting the oil and filter changed
2. Put extra P/S fluid, coolant, engine oil in the trunk.
3. Rotate the tires (Last time was 8 months ago) and possibly check the tires while rotating.
Am I missing anything so far?
I would really appreciate it if you guys can offer me any additional suggestions on what to prepare.
Thank you guys very much in advance!

You should give this a look over:
Data geniuses have figured out what the ultimate U.S. road trip looks like
It's supposed to be the most efficient in routes while providing stops at historical places in the country. Should be pretty fun!

Also maybe something creative involving the forum? A pic with another member's car as you get to each state (or major city)?

it's a car-drive it
did 3 cross county roadtrips in our 06 tsx. first time was when it was 6 months old. had the oil/filter changed, checked tire pressure. Nothing extra done. It now has almost 173K problem miles. enjoy. It was fun.

Pretty much everyone covered it!... I would replace the air filter before your trip and when you reach your destination IF you have really have to...never know what you'll be driving thru cross country

Yup. Don't know, I didn't have much patience when doing it either I admit. Tried it twice and twice it wasn't worth it. One trip was to Vegas and the flapping of the tape on the car was enough for me to pull over and rip it all off lol.
Next trip to Vegas I ended up just using some Optimum Spray Wax the night before and when I got to destination, just a quick wipe got a ton of the bugs off.

Thank you all very much for the input.
I have decided to replace the air and cabin filter both as well.
Today the CEL P0134 comes on. Looks like I need to replace the bank1 upstream O2 sensor as well. (The rear one).
I just ordered the parts online and will keep you guys posted.

A quick update from my side.
I changed the rear O2 sensor the past weekend. But when I was rotating the tires, I realized that the front tire inner edges are almost gone.
I have put 40k miles on the current set of Continental DWS, which I bought in July 2012 . So I decided to get a new set of DWS while the place I bought them actually gave a discount due to the 50k warranty(20% off due to the prorated milage warranty).
I changed the MTF and brake fluid in Oct 2013 and has put on 20k miles since then.
Do you guys think I should do another MTF and brake fluid flush before I leave?

Yes, I have been using GM (AC Delco) synchromesh ever since I got the car.
It's been 20k miles since my last flush. The service manual says every 30k - 60k. Do you really think i should do it? If so, I could actually!
Last time when I did it, the fluid was pretty clean (after 30k miles or something).
