Early impressions of T608...
Well, I got my T608 in the mail yesterday. I'm actually pretty impressed with the phone. It has all of the features of my old Hitachi P300 (except for POP e-mail, which I'm actually going to miss quite a bit) in a much smaller form factor. Setting up the Bluetooth took less than 5 minutes, and that was with me not reading any instructions and just following the voice prompts from the TL and searching through the menus on the T608. Voice quality in the car is much better than I was expecting, and the tests I've done with friends and family show that the quality on the other end of the line is quite good as well (some people I called heard a very faint echo that got better if I turned down the volume).
The negatives I've noticed are:
1.) Extremely poor quality midi sounds/ringtones. Fortunately, I tend to use the standard rings, but flipping through the included ringtones was disappointing to say the least -- my P300 had much better quality midi sound (T608 sounds thin and tinny).
2.) The battery life is horrible! The bluetooth in the car drains the battery more rapidly than I would have ever thought. The 30-45 minutes I spent sitting in the car pairing the phone and making maybe 15 minutes of calls drained the battery almost 1/2. I recharged and again, making one 5 minute speakerphone call and setting up and using vision for 10-15 minutes also allowed me to watch the battery drain. They claim a 2.5hr. talktime w/ 7 days of standby, but if you plan on enabling the bluetooth, I have a feeling the charging will be daily (if not more often).
3.) Ringtone/speakerphone volume not very high (I have everything on highest settings so I'll be sure I can hear). I've heard some Nextel phones that have set my standard for ringtone/speakerphone volume, and this phone is far quieter at even its highest settings. The vibration alert is also very weak.
4.) Menus are slow.
Despite these negatives, I do think I'll enjoy this phone. It is small with an internal antenna, has a nice color screen, full duplex speakerphone, voice features, and of course, BLUETOOTH! I haven't had a chance to test reception yet, but it was able to make and hold a call at my work (which has pretty poor Sprint reception) without problems. If SE would just release an extended-life battery, I'd be perfectly content. I will probably keep this phone until the fall when (hopefully) Sprint will have a much wider selection of Bluetooth phones (please give us a Bluetooth flip!).
