is there a way to convert the current navigation screen to a DVD/TV screen as well? Does anyone know someone IN NYC that can has done it on a 2004 TL?

Try Bruckner Auto (brucknerauto.com), they're on Northern Blvd in Queens. I don't know if they've done an '04 TL yet, but I think they're the only dealer in NYC for the company that makes the equipment you need, avelectronic.com. As an added bonus, you can add a camera above the license plate turning the Navi screen into a rear backup video system when you go into reverse. Total with installation around $1000ish.
